Question about Casablanca Fan 74U9D Four Seasons® III Classic White Ceiling

Panama 5 12444T

Casabalanca fan bought around 1990. Switch on 2 walls one has a 11W the other a W32 . Worked fine until big storm. Couldn't get lights to work at all, but fan did from botgh switches. went to casablanca help and they said it probably wasn't the wall switches since the fan still worked. Bought and installed the "newer" RMM number 9901120. Easy installation. Now I do have lights but I can's control them to dim. They are either on or off controlled by powere switch. Thinking it might be that with the new Rmmm I neede w32 on botgh walls, I went and bought a new w32. Results are the same. Light on and off by power switch only. Fan works fine. It seemed it wasn' a W11 problem I replaced the new W32 and results are still the same. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Similar problem occurred less than 2 years after replacing original fan with new unit & intelitouch. Casablanca provided no assistance and helping to identify if the problem is in the switch or the circuit board. Right now just living with having the lights on full when the fan is on.

I have the same problem. Replaced the switch with a universal control to see if that might help and it did not. I suspect the RMM or PCB in the fan needs to be replaced but will call Casablanca first.

Similar to what was described above. Casablanca model Panama 5, model #12004T. Control W-11. I've had this problem for 2 years but refuse to give up and discard a perfectly good fan because of a control issue. Specifically, all of a sudden I was unable to switch speeds or direction. Fan was stuck on high. After trying different switch combinations, the fan went off and lights went on. Now I could not turn lights off, so I removed the bulbs. Casablanca's response was very disappointing. Said my fan was too old (1985) and I could not just replace the W-11 with a 32. Said I needed to ship the fan (no blades) to the factory and they would fix it for $120. Too much. I determined that one of the microswitches in the control had a burned-out contact and got a new one (Cherry SRB22A2). However this did not fix the problem and my wife is about to kill me. Any help you can offer?

Jfpogie, we're not talking about a regular incandescent dimmer switch, or even a regular specialized fan dimmer switch. This is Casablanca's renowned, patented, complicated, computerized IntelliTouch system -- which uses technology that is still cool by today's standards and was positively space-age back in the 1980s when it was introduced.

Besides, he already replaced the older (W11-model) IntelliTouch switch with a new (W32-model) one. And that didn't fix the problem.

tjww11 -- if you've replaced both the IntelliTouch wall switches, and all the RMM boards, and that hasn't helped, then you need to replace the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) in the fan's switch housing.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

The combination of wall switch control and remote control tends to throw the unit into a tizzy. Try disconnecting power at the source and starting all over again. You may have to abandon wall switch control and rely solely on the remote.

Switch has worked fine for 2 years and now it works, then doesn't work

Check all connections where any power wires or ground wires are connected. Even on the switches. and yes on the fan itself. Sometimes a wire on a connection will vibrate loose and will work then not work. Make sure they are tightly put together.

How do I change the channel for the w85 wall switch on a Panama 2 fan? I have a neighbor with the same fan and when they change the settings on their fan it changes on ours.

Hi,

I'm most familiar with the w-32 control interface, but I bet you mean W-82, instead of W-85.

I am pretty sure since the W-82 uses RF signals that there are a set of dip switches on the side or rear of the control and a set on the fan as well. I pulled up the Operation manual for W-82 here for you, but it does not say how to change the channel on it. I was un able to locate the actual owners manual for the Panama II with W-82 as it was a very- short lived control, only made for about 6 months from what I understand. Does your fan have the XTR200 motor or the XLP-2000?

Ceiling fan light flecker

Grinding indicates failed bearings. This is causing excess load in the motor and that is causing the flickering. This is not a user repair and would like cost around $130.00 for labor and bearing assuming you find a shop willing to do it. Most fans have pressed bearings and are very cheap.

Fiddling around with the wall switch and remote control settings caused the receiver to suffer a mental breakdown. You may have to purchase a replacement receiver and reprogram from scratch. In practice, you generally have to decide whether to use the wall switch or the remote control, but not both.
