Question about Apple Audio Players & Recorders

New Ipod, no detection by computer.

''An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again.''
I am trying to put music on an ipod for a family member using my computer. It was bought new and now isn't recognized on my computer. I have an ipod and it is ok. I downloaded the new version of itunes, but it hasn't helped. I have Windows Vista home premium and the message also comes up saying, ''There may be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it.'' --> Then I try the scan and fix option to no evail. I have safely removed the ipod the times I try to use it as well. What is going on?

Ipod woulnt connect to itunes

Reset your iPod:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Then connect it to your computer and see if it is recognized by iTunes.

If not, try other USB ports on your computer, especially any on the back panel.

Use the Five Rs to restore the iPod. You will lose the data that is currently on it if you restore but you can always re-sync the data to the iPod. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

I forgot my passcode for my ipod touch.

It seems like you will have to restore it which i have researched and seems to be the only way, this will sadly erase all content so if you are willing to put back your music/videos etc.. back, then go for it you do this by

1) Connect the iPod Touch
2) Press and hold sleep+home until the device reboots.
3) Keep holding until that "please connect me to iTunes"-screen appears
4) iTunes says something about having detected a touch in recovery mode. Allow it to do its thing.

If you get the -18 error, proceed:

5) Disconnect the iPod Touch
6) Close iTunes
7) Reconnect the iPod Touch
8) iTunes launches and shows message as in step 4, but this time, the recovery will work
