IF YOU LOOK INTO THE SLOT WHERE YOU FEED THE PAPER...GET A FLASHLIGHT ........IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLOT YOU WILL SEE A TINY SWITCH. THAT THING SOMETIMES GETS GUMMED UP WITH GLUE FROM ENVELOPES AND SUCH... TRY SOME WD-40 ON THAT SWITCH... WITH THE MACHINE UNPLUGGED PUT PAPER IN THE SLOT TO MOVE THE SWITCH SO THE WD-40 CAN LOOSEN UP ANYTHING .... THEN TRY BLOWING AIR IN IT....
ARE YOU SURE THAT THE TOP OF THE SHREDDER IS SITTING FLUSH WITH THE PORTION IT RESTS ON??? THAT COULD ALSO MAKE IT NOT WORK..... OR IF THE BASKET NEEDS EMPTYING THE TOP WONT REST FLUSH ON THE BASKET.
Check the Power
Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active.
Rest the Shredder
Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate.
Clear Paper Jam
Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear.
Auto Mode Not Working
Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.
You'll have to unplug the machine, then remove the screws front (inside door or cabinet) and rear to remove the top cover. Insure that the safety cover arm which contacts the microswitch is not broken or the microswitch is out of adjustment.
Make sure that the shredder is locked down in its case by pushing down on all 4 corners.
Since the basket slides forward to empty it, I would think the safety switch is located in the front but not positive since I don't have a unit right in front of me.
Check to see if you see a slot in the top part of the shredder unit. Usually the basket has a piece of plastic that will line up with the slot when the basket is in place (Safety switch) so that the top part of the shredder knows that the basket is in place.
Look around with a flashlight, If you are going to feel around with your hand, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG the shredder just to be safe.
