Question about Dell Inspiron E1705 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 that seizes up.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 I purchased May 2006. Recently ( 4 months ?? ) it has started to seize up. I will be doing some task and the mouse/keyboard will stop with the screen frozen. Sometimes I am moving form lap to table, sometimes no real movement at all. Must turn off and restart. Sometimes I can do this by holding down power button, sometimes must remove power. When I restart, sometimes it wont boot. Short flash of hard drive light, then the cap lock light and light to the right of it just blink on and off. Must remove power and repeat ( sometimes several times ). When gets going, all is fine for a while. Sometimes OK for weeks, sometimes seizes up several times in a day ( like yesterday ).

I took laptop into local shop. They were able to make it freeze during diagnostic. They cleaned out the insides ( very dusty ) and installed a new ( larger ) hard drive. That was Friday, and we are running smoothly as of Monday evening!!!

Kurio 7 won't hold charge. When pluged into charge it feels like it is seizing up and vibrates.

Don't most electrical/electronic equipment have a 12 month warranty at lest, Batteries 6 months, well here in Aus it's how I am aware it is. Anyway if you can and have warranty take it back, that's all I can suggest.

If your Dell does not have a built-in SD card reader then you can purchase a USB SD (multi memory card) reader. Then you can copy/load photos from memory card into your computer.

Dell Inspiron E1705 battery light flashes 4 amber lights, then 1 green. The battery seems to charge.

The ambar lights are warning you the battery is becoming to dead, it means in a short time, if it has not happens now, the battery won't retain the charge anymore, it is time thinking in a replacement if you use your laptop without plug in the power outlet.

Where is the LCD backlight inverter on an Inspiron

The inverter is in the LCD, below the actual screen. It controls the brightness and the contrast on the laptop. Here is a link where I purchase them:

It is easy to replace. Here is a link that will guide you:

Dell power adapter

Does the after market adapters have the same voltage and at least the same amp. rating (can be more) as the original Dell adapter?
If they have less amps then it would explain why they are burning out because they are overloaded.

If the adapters are equivalent or better than the original DELL adapter then there is something wrong with the laptop which is causing it to draw more power (amps) than normal and it needs to be checked out.

Express slot is bad

I would be trying another card before checking the laptop.

If the port itself was shorting out then it would be shorting out with or without the card in place.
