Question about Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 Player

1 Answer

Problem with 'Hardisk Problem'

It is on 'Recovery mode'

does nothing on 'clean up'

goes to 'Harddisk Problem' when I press formatt all

reload firmware - goes to 'Hardisk Problem'

reboot appears to reboot it but it goes straight back to recovery mode.

I have stuck a pin in the side of it and this simply resets it to recovery mode.

I can switch it on and off but always back to recovery mode.

I did not drop it and have not even used it that much. I used it while riding my bike so it may have been jostled about a bit.

What is the matter with it!?

Many thanks for your help in advance

Tired it. Still same problem. Stuck on recovery mode. then when i press reboot or whatever it just returns to recpovery mode.

Thanks for your efforts though - appreciate your time.

Yes. What a rubbish product. I bought it new and hardly used it, never dropped it. For the price I paid for a product to go wrong like this is RUBBISH and I feel ripped off.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

"Hard-disk Problem"... I'd just like to confirm once more that smacking the player on its rhs while turning it on works.I had to smack it fairly hard though so don't be afraid!! I didn't try smacking it till I checked out the threads above so thanks everyone I'm a happy man again!! :)

Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently
insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch.

2. Press and hold the Play button while powering on your player.

3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.
It will display the following options:
Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All)
Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware
Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.

I actually had this exact problem a little while ago with my Zen Sleek-- Booting straight to the Recovery menu, and only getting a generic "Harddisk problem" error screen any time I would try to do anything.

Recovery Mode

I agree, use the Reload Firmware tool on recovery mode and then upgrade the firmware from the website. If you get "firmware failed!", then try it from a different computer.

Booting straight to the Recovery menu
I decided to open it up to check out the hard drive to see what kind I would need so I could try replacing it. The data plug that attaches to the hard drive itself was partially unplugged. So, I pushed it back in all the way, put it all back together again, and turned it on just to see if something different might happen. (I had it set in my mind that the hard drive failed and I would need a new one, so I didn't expect anything different to happen) And to my surprise, it worked just like new again.

Before you go off and invest in a new hard drive, I suggest opening it up and make sure that plug is in all the way. Since you'll be opening it up in any case, it wouldn't hurt.

good luck

Hard drive

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Problems with Reloading Firmware. Please Help.

to upgrade firmware you have to do it from the pc.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?
