Xerox and scanner not working

No xerox and scanning is working but printing is going on. Display : scanner error no 5 turn off then on

I tried "Regrind"'s solution and it didn't seem to work. In frustration, I tried it again and the problem disappeared!!....at least for now. We'll see how long it lasts. Thanks Regrind, I was about ready to jetison the whole thing.

SOURCE: trying to scan, but keep getting error code

I finally got a solution to my problem, which is the same as this one. When trying to scan via USB, you have to make sure the unit is set to USB. On the top panel just above the LCD display, is 3 buttons, Copy, Fax, Scan. Hit the SCAN button, till the display says USB SCANNING. Then try to scan again. Good luck!!

I finally got a solution to my problem, which is the same as this one. When trying to scan via USB, you have to make sure the unit is set to USB. On the top panel just above the LCD display, is 3 buttons, Copy, Fax, Scan. Hit the SCAN button, till the display says USB SCANNING. Then try to scan again. Good luck!

SOURCE: Kodak esp 5 won't scan to computer

I had this problem; printer would copy okay but not scan, just start and then stop.

The way I got it working (apart from upgrading all software and drivers) was to connect printer to a USB2 port (I connected directly to the PC rather than a hub). I did have it attached to a USB1 hub and this just didn't seem to work for scanning. Something to try!

If you are using windows - go to Printers / Devices and uninstall the printer

Turn the printer off and wait a couple of minutes

Now turn on the printer

Now add the printer in windows again and it should work

I have the message "Unlock scan head" when I turn the screw to the left to unlock it, I get the same message. Is there anything else I should be doing?


If you receive this error even after unlocking the scanhead xerox suggests replacing the scanner assembly. Item Inc offers this part on exchange for much cheaper then xerox. Here's a video to show you how to fix this error/replace the scanner.">

SCANNER LOCKED IS ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN I HAVE CHECKED THE GREEN BUTTON UNDER THE PAPER TRAY AND THAT IS SET TO UNLOCK. WHEN I TRY TO PRINT THE DISPLAY SCREEN SAYS SCANNER ERROR AND THE SCANNER LOCKED


Hi, what you want to do is, first; (shutdown) your Scanner, next (shutdown) the computer. Disconnect the scanner, and unplug it from the outlet. Disconnect scanner cables from the computer; Note: do not change anything on the computer. Reconnect cables to the computer. Plug scanner back into the power outlet; turn on computer, turn scanner on. This may clear the (Freeze); but the (Error) might appear again. Thanks paul7of9

Xerox Documate 152 - Scan quality is now V.BAD!


I would go to Xerox.com and look up their knowledge base. Here is a copy of data from their site related to this problem:

Symptom: Scanned images have poor image quality, are fuzzy, unclear, or hard to read.
Cause: There are several things that can lead to poor image quality including the scan settings, dirt on the scanner, and driver problems. Solution: Note: If you scan as a PDF file and your scans look fuzzy when viewed in PaperPort, try right clicking on the file and selecting "Open" to open them in Adobe Reader. If they display fine in Adobe Reader then there is nothing wrong with the scans, it is simply that they are not being displayed well in PaperPort.

The following solutions can help resolve poor scan quality.

Solution 1 - Adjust the scan settings

Try increasing the resolution of your scan. 300 dpi to 400 dpi should be clear for most images
  • If you are scanning in Black and White, try Grayscale or Color. Some images will not display correctly in Black and White
  • You can also try adjusting the brightness and contrast
  • Note: For information on adjusting your scan settings, refer to the user guide for your scanner
Solution 2 - Clean and Calibrate the scanner

Note: Calibration only applies to sheetfed scanners.

Have a Xerox M20i. Copy comes out light. Toner should be OK. Prints fine. Scans fine.


You need to clean the scanner. You can try doing the shading adjustment to calabrate the scanner but most likely the mirrors are hazed up. Since you can print fine you eliminate the laser.
To do the shading adjustment, you need to press in order,,, Menu # 1934, You will see a " T "on the screen, that will be the tech mode. Press the machine status, then go to maintenance, then scroll to shading. Place 5 sheets of white paper on the glass and then run the shading adjustment. turn the machine off and on, and run copies again. But most likely you will have to take the scanner off and clean it.
If you want to clean the scanner let me know, I will send you directions on how to do that. The mirrors in that scan head tend to haze up.

Printer will not come to ready


Have you looked at the consumables counters in the machine status area to see if any of the drums, toners, fuser, transfer belt , etc have exceeded their life ? One of the consumable items reaching the end of life will not allow you to copy or print just scan.

To scan a document to file (Scan to File), the WorkCentre must be directly connected to the workstation using a USB or parallel connection. Scan to File is not supported over an Ethernet connection.
