Question about Siemens Gigaset E365 Cordless Phone

1 Answer

Siemens gigaset E365. I have just purchased this phone let it charge, registered to base. I pay my telecom provider for caller ID - my previous now tired Phillips dect showed numbers of callers even names even if not listed in my phone and listed missed and received calls . the Gigaset is not doing this altho it states in the literature that is should! I bought this phone for this option because I am a woman living alone and wish to avoid unwanted calls - please advise thanks Sara

Thank you for the reply but as I stated yes my telecom provider does provide me with caller ID the phone states that it supports CLIP , CLI, CNIP - but it is not working . I have had to reconnect my old Philips which has now become tired and unreliable in order to see who is calling me and list missed calls grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Does it say any of these on the display

Seimens Gigaset AL285 BSNL caller ID not working

The source of my caller ID not displaying was a faulty ADSL filter.
For some reason my ADSL filter blocked the caller id information - but worked fine otherwise.
When I changed the filter the caller ID worked fine again.

Hi,

This is because your service provider dont have this caller ID facility.
Some service provider by default have this facility activated but some service provider we need to activate this facility.

Please call your service provider to activate this facility.

Thanx

Handset won't work

I went through this exercise with a Siemens Gigaset 8800. The solution is to DE-register the handset first. Then register it with your base. This function can likely be accessed in the handset menu. The phone you purchased is apparently still registered to the previous user's base.

Problem Siemens Gigaset 4000 and 4200

If you had a storm, and the only handset that works shows line in use, then your base has gone bad and needs repair. The reason the phones are flashing base 1 or something to that effect is because they don't see the base anymore, which typically means no phones will see your base, so its odd that one phone is actually seeing the base. Either way, you can try re-registering the phones to the base, but if you get the line in use after they register (if they will register), then your base is bad. If they won't register, your base is bad. For additional assistance you can go to www.cordlessrepair.com

Caller ID

Even at its factory defaults your Siemens handset should be showing the caller id after the second ring. Look at your time and date on the phone, if they are not accurate then the caller id signal is not coming through since when activated caller id will not only give you the caller information, but it syncs with the telephone companys clock too. If I were there, I would take a phone that is known to have its caller id working and plug it in your line and see if caller id shows up on it. If it does show caller id, then there is something wrong with your Siemens base. If it does not, then your phone company dropped the ball and caller id is not activated. Then I would take the Siemens phone to another line (neighbor or friend) that has working caller id and plug my Siemens into it and see if it shows up. Doing all that will isolate your problem, I guarantee it.

Caller id

Caller ID in the USA uses the FSK standard. For the most part, caller ID in India uses DTMF (although I have heard of some FSK usage).

I am currently living in New Delhi and have an Airtel home phone line. My switch uses DTMF. I went to the Palika electronics bazaar (I aways use shop number 266 near gate 5, they seem to be a little kinder to foreigners as far as the "final price") and purchased an DTMF to FSK convertor. My US phones now show caller ID information, although using US number seperations ### - ### - ####. I paid R500 but you could probably get it for around R400 if you are willing to put in the time bargaining. It looks like they are also available on Indian Ebay.

Mine says UST001B. It looks like these are low volume items because they stuck the components into a box marked "DSL Splitter" It works to convert the caller ID as advertised.
