Re: limited or no network connection

Looks like the dhcp is your problem.

the error is telling you that its an internal network providing limited access.

go to run cmd then in the dos prompt type in ipconfig /all

see your network card's ip address. if its 169.x.x.x then thats the problem..u are not getting the ip address from your computer.

go to your network connections right click the network card then go properties in the tcp/ip area assign yourself a manual ip address of 192.168.1.xx
the xx is a number that u like 2 digits only but it can't be 1

your default gateway is your router so give it

this should solve ur problem

good luck

I have installed my router and put in all my passwords. when i try to connect to the internet it keeps on telling me that i have limited connectivity and will not allow me on line.

i am techbuddies from fixya and i want to give a try to solve your problem .
just for your information limited or no connectivity problem comes up when the computer doesnot get the correct ip address .

step 1- please connect the router via cable to your computer .

step 2 -open up the router page by specifying the default gateway address of your router .
if you donot know then open up command prompt in your compter and type ipconfig .note down the default-gateway address and type the same defaultgateway address in Internet explorer by http://default-gateway and then enter.

step 3 - once you open up the router page under configuration setting you need to specify the Ip address that is given by your ISP .

once you specify that try to connect to the internet and check wether it is working or not.

step 4 - open up network connection and right click on the LAN that is running on the computer ,click on the properties, once you do that you get a screen named Local area connection properties from the middle box highlight option that says internet conection protocol 4 and then click on to properties ,once you do that you get another screen ,in that paticular screen just check radio botton is on the option that says obtain and ip address automatically .

if you futher face the same problem you can get back to me on fixya and i would love to solve your issue

One of my computers wont connect to internet keeps saying limited acsess other computers are working fine

It means there is issue of tcp ip address. Limited connectivity means network adapter tcp ip not correct or not getting ip from DHCP server. For that set static ip in network adapter tcp ip property ac your local network range. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

You need to enter the security code on the router to tell the router it is safe to communiate with your computer. This is to prevent others from hijacking your signal from the router.

Connected with limited access

This actually sounds like the device is not getting proper DHCP settings.

First of all, power cycle the router, and reboot the computer to make sure a fresh connection from both devices is achieved.

If the issue persists, check to make sure the computer does not have any static IP settings stored in the adapter.

The following steps will tell you how to do so:
-Control Panel
-In Classic View, select network connections
-In Category View, select Network and Internet connections, then select network connections
- Right click the appropiate network adapter (Local Area Connection, for cabled connections, wireless for wireless connections)
- Select Properties
- in the "This connection uses the following items:" Box select the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" (making sure to keep the checkbox selected (selecting the name helps) then click properties.
- If obtain an IP address automatically is selected (and the boxes below are grey), and Obtain DNS Server address automatically (again grey boxes below) are selected then something else may be happening, which will require more advanced steps.

If the boxes are not grey, then you may have incorrect settings, select the appropriate radio boxes (listed above) to make the boxes greyed out, and that may resolve your issue.

Wrong ip address, need to reconfigure

Hi Diane,

If your getting limited or no connectivity on your wireless connection on the computer more or less you have enabled wireless security on your router and you need to delete or configure the wireless settings on your computer and make sure that you entered the correct security settings. For example if you had enabled WEP 64bit on the router, you should go to the wireless connection properties of your wireless adapter and go to wireless networks, there you can select your network name and click on edit or configure, enter the correct network key(normally if its WEP it's either 10 or 26 digit if it's WEP 128bit).

Wireless doest not work (USR8054)

When you set your security, try using WEP personal as this is the most compatible with your things. Also, it is a good idea to put your computers on the network before you set your password.
