It sounds like you have a blockage somewhere. The brush roll will still gather material, but if the suction is insufficient, it will spit it back out eventually. Take the bag out and check at the connection for blockage. When you are sure it's clear, put in a new bag and turn the machine on. The bag should inflate rapidly. If it does not, check elswhere for blockage.

Do my Dirt Devil have a restart button it just stop running

Hi! No the vacuum doesn't have a restart button, but it does have a thermal protector that will shut the vacuum down when it is overheated. If your dirt cup was too full this will activate the thermal protector sensor. Clogs and dirty filters can cause this as well. We recommend emptying the dirt cup, tapping out the filter and checking the hose for clogs. The vacuum will come back on usually within 45 minutes to an hour. Hope this helps. My dirt devil keeps shutting off randomly

It's overheating. Empty the cup and replace the filters. There's a breaker that opens up and turns it off when it gets too hot. When it cools down it closes back up and it will run again. It'll argue with you til the end of time or until you fix the problem.

Good Luck

I am using a Dirt Devel upright vacuum. How do you start the suction of the hose for upholstery etc. as opposed to floors.

there maybe a dial to turn the floor suction to the hose/wand. normally these are located at th base of the machine.

No suction on floor part

From your problem description, you may have a blockage in the foot. Check the intake under the vac by the roller.

The Dirt Devil Featherlite vacuum cleaner throws up the dirt back out. Sometimes the vacuum cleaner doesn't pick up any dirt

You have a blocked vacuum hose take hose off and out side. Push the garden hose from one end to the other, this will push out the blockage

How do i use the hose?

If you are facing the back of the vacuum, where the cord is stored, there is a hose on your right, that ends about half way down the dump cup.
Remove the hose from it storage point and you will now have scution there and be able to use your tools for above the floor cleaning. You can add the stright wand for a longer reach as well. The tools will fit on both parts.

How do you empty it?

There is a black clip at the top of the dirt cup which holds the dirt cup in place on this vacuum. Pull back on this clip with one hand and with the other you will be able to remove the entire dirt cup assembly. Once the dirt cup assembly is off remove the lid, and take the bottom portion to the trash can and dump. Tap the side of the cup slightly to remove excess dirt. Romove the dirt cup filter inside and do the same. Replace the fiter and the lid and put it back on to the machine. You should replace the dirt cup filter every 6 months to a year. Part is below:

I have a dirt devil featherlite carpet shampooer. It has been a great one for about five years without any problems. I need to know if anyone knows where I can find the replacement filters?

Hi There,

We actually do carry the foam filter for your Dirt Devil Featherlite (also manufactured as the Easy Steamer) carpet cleaner.

According to the Dirt Devil parts diagram for the CE6000, your machine takes the following foam filter. Here's a direct link to the filter on our website:
Dirt Devil Featherlite, Easy Steamer Foam Filter Part# 1-700750-600

Here's a link for the parts diagram for your Dirt Devil Featherlite CE6000 carpet cleaner. This will give you all of the part numbers, and drawings for each part on your machine should need any further parts:

I hope this helped. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to use the comment field here on the repair page to contact me, I'm always happy to answer any follow up questions.

If you found this repair helpful, please be so kind and rate the repair helpful and / or leave feedback for me. Thanks so much!

Vacuum doesn't pick-up dirt

It's probably not picking up because the belt is worn and stretched. With a new belt it will pick up a lot better. Here is the belts you need:
