Dell computer modem makes loud rushing sound and won't work

Check connections. Reboot computer. Reboot modem. If no improvement - RESET modem to default. {N.B.: This will remove any changes you have made previously...(Have you checked with the help-desk at your Internet Service Provider?)!} It is usually done by pressing a paper-clip into a hole, usually on the back side of modem, for at least 10x seconds - (check with modem instruction manual). If fault remains after this try another modem. If second modem does the same, then it sounds like a fault in the computer. Check with ISP!
Sorry I can not help more - but you have not given much information; details; etc. I hope this helps - kind regards - 'b'ye - Bruce.

Since connecting to ADSL2+ service our internet connection frequently drops out. The ISP has spent some time checking our two phone lines, which have been noisy at times since joining ADSL2+ but seem to be...

you need to check the splitter then divides the current of the telephone line into two i.e for the phone and the modem ..i am really very sure that disturbance and internet drop outs are due to that splitter as it may be faulty just try changing that .and if not check for the cable connecting the p.c to the modem the lan cable then at last if these things don't work out you need to test the connection with a another modem but ask your isp they will provide you the modem it's their duty but not if you are using a personal modem ...then in that case you can take it to a hardware repair shop and ask them to diagnose the modem for problems the only loss will be that you will have to pay them some money for diagnosis butyou will get the real idea of that is your modem really faulty ...then you can just go to the market and buy a new modem .....without any hesitation or fear that the old one may be working fine..... :))

I just switched from cable modem to dsl modem..dsl modem gets on the internet when connected directly to computer..once connected to router doesnt connect to internet

Your new ISP is DSL. the router was working before with the cable modem. The settings for the cable and DSL ISP are different. Now your computer is working when you connect it directly to the DSL modem. that means the modem is working.
The DSL modem works on 2 different modes.
You will need to check which mode is your modem working on and according to the settings of your modem you will need to set up the router.
To change the settings of the router, you will need to open the set up page of the router.
Click Here for more information about the router set up.

Windows server 2003 installed two usb us robotics modem and one will let me query it and the other does not.

double check the IRQ assignments and the com ports.

It is possible to run these modems as "shotgun" but taks a little patience and work.

Also double check what you have for IRQ settings in the bios etc as this too can hold off two modems from working properly.

Internet always disconnect

Is it disconnecting through the router or modem?
If it getting disconnected through the modem, then first check whether it disconnects through the modem.
connect the computer directly to the modem and check whether it works properly or not?
If it is working properly through the modem then there must be a problem with the router.
try to upgrade the firmware of the router.

Suddenly lost internet connection on 2Wire DSL modem

hmmm...only thing that makes sense here is that your dSL is unhappy...did you check that phone line into the modem? that's what the internet light means when it's out, actually..if its not the line, then it's the modem..

not much else that is off on this.
