Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition for PC

1 Answer

I had my laptop fixed 6 months ago and i was told i no longer have safe mode. I recently made a mistake and set my computer to start in safe mode. Now i can't get it back to normal mode. The screen says safe mode up the top and down the bottom but there is no start button and i can't left or right click anything. I was able to hit f1 during start up and perform a system restore but it still only stasts in safe mode. i have vista on a dell laptop.

Who ever fixed your laptop must has done some thing that has led you to this issue....it's just not possible that you wont have Safe Mode, it's one of the inbuilt safety system of Windows OS....press F8 to get into the option to go to Safe Mode or.....Normal mode of operation.....
You need to press F8 before the Windows screen appears...after you switch ON your laptop.

What do I do?!

Try this:

Reboot your PC into Safe Mode With Networking:

Start your computer in safe mode

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. For more information, see What is safe mode?

Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes. If a recently installed program, device, or driver prevents Windows from running correctly, you can start your computer in safe mode and then remove the program that's causing the problem. For more information about troubleshooting problems in safe mode, see Diagnostic tools to use in safe mode.

  1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, click the arrow next to the Shut Down button eb058ccf-b21e-4dfe-9bb7-1ad6c83b705c_47.jpg, and then click Restart.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

    • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

  3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press Enter. For more information about options, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).

  4. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.

When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your monitor. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

Once in Safe Mode With Networking

Click on the two links below and go to the download now tab. Save Rkill and Malwarebytes to the desktop.

Severe corruption. Since you can no longer boot in any way in it it's going to be extremely hard to fix it. Better just reinstall Windows from scratch. Use the recovery cd that should have come with the laptop. If you don't have it then just use a disk borrowed from a friend and the key on the label.

Do you see this issue in safe mode?

Reasons to tell you about safe mode: Users who may not be able to boot into normal mode, or are not able to troubleshoot their computer properly, may need to boot into Safe Mode bypassing normal windows settings and startup programs and allowing the user to fix their computer.

Sony vaio not loading windos

Try booting XP with the installation CD & use the recovery console to boot the laptop.

From the Setup CD-ROM

Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.
When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console. When prompted, type the Administrator password. At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a specific command.

To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit.
