How to reduce overheating problems on laptops by Lotfi the Expert.

Laptops suffer from overheating which you may notice after few hours of use underneath which can burn your skin or cause damage to your laptop resulting in a very complicated problem. I came up with few simple tips to reduce the likelihood of component failure due to overheating.

1) Use your notebook on a flat hard surface such as desk, table with wooden, glass or metal surfaces. if you want to use it on your bed use a large book underneath to put it on or something that is flat.

2) Do not play graphic demanding applications such as Games or Movies for long hours continuously, when you notice your fan is getting very loud and your laptop is overheating switch it off and let it cool down for about 10 minutes.

3) Never cover the ventilation holes on your laptop.

4) Carry out a full dust removal once every 6 months using an air can and also change the thermal paste on both processor and graphic chip unit once every year by a technician. as shown in my video here:

5) Set the power options to "power saver" when not using the laptop for performance mode applications such as gaming or editing.

Using a notebook cooling pad will not have such a dramatic effect to reduce temperatures as the cool air does not reach the specific components therefore do not waste money in cooling pads for laptops as you will not notice more than 2 or 3c drop.

How do I data fatory reset an hp compaq nx9600

Try pressing [F11] repeatedly on Start-up, to access the Factory Recovery Partition.....

However, PLEASE note that you will NOT find Windows 7 drivers for your laptop if it is that old. (confirmed, HP only supports XP on that model.)

IOW....*IF* you could manage to get win7 to install on it, it is HIGHLY likely that parts of it would not, network, cardbus slot, audio.....all of these would need windows 7 drivers to work properly.

you would likely be able to see a monitor image, but not be able to change the resolution much (stuck at 800x600) and the others....would be hit and miss. and if your network adapters (LAN and WLAN) did not work, I'm not sure of what use it would be to you.....

This is one of the pit-falls in Laptop/Notebook ownership. Although some models have lasted through more than one OS, they are a tiny minority.

Random shutdown indicates the cooling fan and additional parts need to be cleaned. The laptop must be dismantled down to the motherboard level, remove cooling fan, heatsink and use a can of compressed air to blow out all the ports and fan. Next use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to remove the old thermal grease and replace with new.

Dropped off a glas of water on my toshiba laptop and now it's not longer turning on

Given that your laptop is not water resistant, the water probably leaked onto the mainboard, fried it thus rendering it unusable. Replace any of the fried part (usually the mainboard is one-piece, so sending it to advance circuit technician is advised).

Yeah, I am sure that your computer is completely destroyed. The mobo is fried, along with your hd and every other electronic component is destroyed. It's a paper weight now.

HP Compaq NX960 Laptop Keyboard Problem

This is generally a sensitivity issue with the keyboard. It's usually caused when the rubber depressors that activate each key start getting worn. Sometimes you can take each key off individually, take off the rubber depressor and clean the contact point on the keyboard and up inside the depressor where it makes contact. Clean it with with rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. This is alot of work and only fixes the problem about 60% of the time. Your only other option is replacing the keyboard.
