I just answered someone else's question: they let batteries in a GPS, batteries leaked, and GPS completely stopped working.

Even working batteries, if they remain in the camera too long, can do some damage -- especially if the camera doesn't see regular use. Virtually every manufacturer recommends that you remove the batteries if the camera won't be used for 30 days. Old batteries can leak, and you may also see a corrosion buildup on the battery terminals inside the camera.

Canon camera is 5 years old. Eventhough battery is fully charged, the display continues to say ..CHARGE BATTERY..... now camera is totally dead .... and no display text telling you to charge batteries

Try this trick. Pull battery and put camera in a zip lock bag and into freezer overnight. Take out and install charged battery and see if there is any change. This worked with a Go-pro I had, unbelievable! Capacitors get old and dry out and these sometimes affect the charge circuit as well as batteries getting old too. Li-po batteries (yours) get old if you use them or not so it may just be an expired battery.

Camera not working

Unfortunately, if the batteries have corroded then the chances are extremely high that the contacts (and possibly more of the camera's internal electronics) have also been affected by corrosion. It may be possible to clean the contacts yourself, but if there is corrosion internally then the camera is probably not economically repairable.

WHY DOES MY CAMERA take 10 photos & my new recahrgeable batteries die!

Not really. The only "extra" energy required is the use of the flash and 10 photos should not affect that. You said it was a "new" battery? You might take it back to where you bought it. Are you giving it enough time on the charger to fully charge? If the battery is new, your first charge should at least night.
Good Luck

I have a Canon 40D and have never replaced the original lithium battery as someone told me that rechargeable Li - ion batteries don't have a lifespan. My picture quality isn't what it use to be...

The battery does not affect the picture quality. The recharageable battery may affect the auto focus if the battery is low, recharging the battery should fix this problem. Otherwise the camera needs a service.

Hi,

Based on the information you've provided it seems that the CCD Image Sensor of the Camera is affected. If the CCD Image Sensor is affected, the images captured may be discolored or with lines on it. Even if the CCD is affected, the previously captured images and icons of the Camera will display normally. You may try power resetting the Camera.

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.
Also try resetting the Camera back to factory default: The RESET button is located at the lower right side of the control button. To reset the camera just press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.
If the issue remains the same, then service may be required.

Thanks for using FixYa.

This sounds like a problem with the image sensor within the camera. I doubt camera charge will affect picture or LCD screen image quality. Such problems can occur with old camera and in most cases buying a new camera is indicated as repairs are expensive. Ask at the Casio website support.

I have a Nikon d70 SLR. I had this camera completely cleaned and tuned up 3 months ago. Recently I can not take pictures. The battery powers the camera, but the shutter wont engage. An "error" message...

Read the manual on how to do a two-button reset. Also: from the nNikon Support Page on the D70::
It has come to our attention that select electrical components in a limited number of D70 cameras may, in some instances, fail affecting camera performance and/or operability.
While only a limited number of D70 cameras are affected by this advisory, if (1) when a memory card is inserted, your D70's memory card access lamp blinks, locking camera operations and preventing operation, or (2) with no memory card inserted, the camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery, Nikon Inc. will service it free of charge.
To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides return instructions.
The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

Extend the life of my batteries

Using the flash and LCD monitor affects the rate at which the batteries will drain. The rate at which pictures are taken will also affect battery life. When taking pictures sequentially the battery does not have as much time to recover between each shot. To help to extend the life of your battery, the flash, LCD monitor, and sequential shooting should only be used only as necessary.
