This is not normally the disc drive but the fact that the sensors on the back of the drive are overheating.
You will need to send it in and get it fixed, or you can fix it yourself
The Laser lens has probably gone out. I would first try cleaning the laser eye with a q-tip and some alcohol. If that doesn't work then a new laser will have to be purchased and installed. Lasers can be purchased online or on ebay, but you will need to know which drive you have inside your xbox inorder to get the correct laser. If you don't feed comfortable doing the repair yourself, then your local game store can probably repair it for you or let you know someone who can.
To solve this open tray problem
Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the
bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or
image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your console
from reading the disc. Clean your disc.....
Hold the disc by the
edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces. Using a soft, clean,
slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward.
· Note Use
ONLY water to clean the disc.
· Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your console and see if the disc plays.
