Fortunately dell has built in diagnostics that can assist you with identifying the problem. here is a link on how to run them. if the drive is bad then you would need to replace it and reinstall windows and drivers. if it is good then run memory diagnostics as well just to be safe. if both pass then you may have to do a destructive reinstall of windows because you most likely have a virus issue. copy and paste this link into your browser it will help you run the diagnostics.

hope this helps

Turn on the system by pressing Fn+the power Button this will initiate the diagnostics.
If you are getting an Unmountable Boot Volume the diagnostics will likely fail and a new hard drive will be the resolution.

Error code OFOO:O75D error:OFOO:O244

Is this from a blue screen error ?

A "STOP" MESSAGE in white letters behind a blue background?

If it's a sata message (hard drive error message), this means that your harddrive is dead or about to die. Most likely its already dead, this error means also that the harddrive cant be read anymore.

My dell laptop inspiron 1501 not burning or reading cds

Hi,

Please try with any bootable disk,if the system is not booting with the disk then the issue is with the ODD and it needs to be replaced(be sure that first boot device is cdrom in BIOS).

If booting then go to device manager and uninstall the cd/dvdROM drive and secondary IDE controllers and restart the system twice and check.

If fails then lens went bad and CD ROm drive needs to be replaced.

Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop won't boot up

The 2000-0147 error is normal as you had no disk in the optical drive to be read during the test. Boot to the Vista DVD and select the repair my computer option (you may have to run the repair process several times depending on the issues with the drive) See if that helps. If no go, then a reinstall of Vista is likely

Blue Screen of death.

You might try removing the Hard Drive from the machin and slaving it on your other machine. Then running a chkdsk in the command prompt or norton disk utilities. If either fails, backup your data on other machin and reinstall.

The problem might be with the bad sectors on a hard drive. You should run Scan Disk on a partition where you were trying to install Windows Vista.
