Question about Denon DVD-3930 DVD Player
I'll be pleased if someone can help me solve a big trouble with my Denon DVD 3930.
I've bought it 2 years ago 27.04.2007.
It worked quite fine until Jan 2009.
I own 300 copy protected cds between mine (they were bought between 2003-2006 when majors started to use this useless method) ... many of them can't be played by my 3930.
This forum suggests to upgrade Denon firmware.
(update data are :
Update went right.
Suddenly my Denon started to freeze 3-5 seconds in a random way when I play my audio cds.
This forum suggests to upgrade Realta firmware too in a Denon authorized center.
I took my 3930 in it.
Engineer told me that my problem is caused by optical lens and in 1 month and half gave my Denon back to me after substituting optical parts.
Result : it freezes again but now without end, 3930 had to be switched off in order to play again till another freeze.
I took my 3930 back again to Denon authorized center : engineer told me he didn't noticed the problem and again substitutes optical parts.
After 2 weeks he phoned me it was ok.
The day I phoned to him in order to take my 3930 back home he said this time he noticed my problem and he would analized it to solve it.
Today after 2 weeks he phoned me it is ok.
I took it home again : this time he substituted mechanical tray and upgraded firmware.
(I verified data :
Result : it freezes again and now when I switch on my Loewe TV 3930 stop working for 5 seconds and the same if I switch my Loewe TV off.
I'm very very very angry.
My connections to/from 3930 are :
Denon DVD 3930 <-> Denon AVR 4306 ... audio cables, 5+1 channels audio cables, digital (optical) cable
Denon DVD 3930 <-> Loewe Individual 46" ... HDMI cable
Is there someone who is able to solve this sfinx question ?
(Now my Sony RDR-HDX 1090 plays my audio cds and dvds waiting for Denon DVD 3930 to resurge)

I have the Denon 2900 (about 4 years of use) and until recently, suffered from the same (growing) problem. CD's were very difficult to start/read. I recently found advice which I tried and was succesful with. It was manually cleaning the laserlens. I took away the outer housing by unscrewing all off the on top (6), side (4) and the back (2) bolts. After that I took out the top plate of the laserunit which took two very little screws taking out. Now you are looking at the cd-tray with the lens. Take a very soft and clean cloth and moisten it a little bit with clean water (be very carefull with the moistening, don't allow any waterdrop to come out of the cloth into the laserlens while cleaning! Carefully clean the lens and dry it with a dry part of the same cloth. Replace the top plate and the outer housing and the player will recognize the discs like it's new again. Good luck! I have had the same problem and was told that it is a "board" inside. Essentially it has lost the surround sound ability and can only play things in Direct/Stereo. Mine is just over 2 years and I originally thought my kids had hit a button on the thing causing the issue...ended up paying $100 to trouble shoot it and confirm that it is internal and more expensive to fix than replace. Can't say that I will be buying a Denon again.

SOURCE: Denon dvd player freezes in
sounds like its stoping during layer switch, if the player is old its needs to be cleaned. its best to clean it once every 20hrs or so. if you do not have a disk cleaner you should go buy one first. if the player is new return it and get the best dvd player you can buy for any amount the toshiba xde. this player is phenomenal, the best you will be amazed. no i dont work for toshiba but ever since they started making hd dvd players(i know they stopped)there players have become the best. trust me if you dont think so just return it. no harm done. if you want a blu-ray get ps3 I dont like them either but i have to admit after buying (for movies only)my third blu-ray player it is by far the best one. almost as good as the toshiba on standard dvd playback but not quite. good luck.
