Best to replace the waste toner collection unit.

This is a user replaceable, consumable part.

How to empty waste toner box in brother 4070 printer

Firstly take out the Drum Carriage. Pull it out as far as it can go then on the left side of the Drum Rail there is a leaver which when turned allows the drum carriage to come out fully. Put the drum carriage down carefully on a flat surface. The rails of the carriage are set lower than the drums so if the surface is flat the drums don't rest on the surface.
Secondly lift out the Transfer Belt (the glossy black plastic thing beneath where the drum carriage is normally) using the handle available. Put this down also on a flat surface carful not to damage the plastic sheet or leaving fingerprints on it.
Thirdly lift out the WT cartridge which sits below where the Transfer Belt sits in the machine. This cartridge is the Waste Toner Box. These are purchased from your brother supplier and are rated to approximately 50,000 pages and are quite cheap to buy. I am guessing you could empty it if you really wanted to but then you have to figure what to do with the waste toner from it. To my knowledge the Landfills look poorly on disposal of waste toner in their landfill.

Reset Waste Toner in a Brother

  1. Remove the full waste toner box per manual.
  2. Wear breathing protection as there will be toner dust in the air.
  3. Place flat in a work area and remove the 6 screws retaining the black box cover and carefully remove cover with box still flat on the work area. Be careful, the box is full of waste toner powder.
  4. Dispose of the waste toner by tipping into waste container, being careful not to inhale the powder. Use a blower or vacuum to remove final traces of waste toner from the box and clean all surfaces with a clean cloth.
  5. Place the box flat on the bench and inspect the clear sight-glass at the front. Inside will be a black flag which should be down on the bottom of the sight glass. If not, there is still waste toner in the front of the box which needs to be shaken or blown out.
  6. Replace the cover and 6 screws and replace the waste toner box in the printer.
  7. If error message still says replace waste toner box, then you need to check the sight glass again. The flag must be horizontal at the bottom of the glass or it is not completely empty.

It was easy to empty the one for the MFC 9840 ( I assume it is equally easy to do once you locate the waste toner box for your model.

Waste toner gets full before toner runs out

Actually, the waste toner should get full sometime before the regular toner runs out in laser printers that have several toner cartridges compared to the single waste toner reservoir.

You can dump the toner reservoir out and avoid buying the empty waste toner 'reservoir.'

I did this on my Brother Laser printer and saved about $30 or so for an empty plastic waste toner bottle or jar.

If this is the way the Kyocera-4020DN is, then I would put the waste toner, which is just that, waste, and put it into a plastic zip loc storage bag and throw it away. Don't breath the toner.

Good luck on this repair.

What is a waste toner box. what does it do and

like the name suggest, it collects waste toner. Any toner that is left over from the print process is waste toner. Once the waste toner bottle is full, the printer will stop working until You have replaced it with an empty waste toner bottle. So in short, if it is telling u to get a new one, get one or the other option is to empty it yourself which is very messy and if u dont clean the bottle of all toner dust, may not even work.

Using the same cartridges for the HL-4070CDW, I refilled the black yellow cyan and magenta cartridges. when I put them all back into the printer, the RED toner life end comes on saying that cyan, magenta,...

There's a window on each end of the cartridges and light shines thru to show when they're empty, your refill toner may not be the right density. If you put a small piece of electrical tape over the windows on the cartridge, the error will go away, but you have to watch print quality to change or add toner.
