Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer
When went to dry a load of clothes this morning my Neptune dryer would not work. The screen said 8.8. It has done this before, but all I had to do was wait a few minutes for the screen to go blank, then start over again, usually trying a timed setting instead of the sensor setting. So far it's been several hours and the screen has not gone blank. I even turned off the electricity to it, but when I turned the eletricity back on, the 8.8. was still there. Help!
I had the same problem this morning - my dryer would not work, the control panel displayed "8.8.". It was 18 degrees outside. Although my dryer is in main level of the house, it is on the outside wall, and I guess too cold to start. I tried turning off the power to reset the dryer, but that did not work. So, I read this blog...put a heater in the room, and also used a hair dryer on the contorl panel - within minutes my dryer was working. Thanks to all who provided solutions.

We had the same problem - you might try and hit the panel with a blow dryer to heat it up if it's in a cold garage - it may buy you some more time - It took mine 2 yrs to go out completely - when it finally did - I took out the curcuit board and found dark discoloration around the cluster of four resistors - after reading dozens of posts from multiple sites, decided to replace those four resistors and the three main capacitors in the same area just to cover all bases. And for only a few bucks - it works like new again!!! A service call could cost you @$300 - $500 from what other are saying! eek if that's really the case!
