Prints pink backgrounds on color pages

We have an HP Color LaserJet 3600n that prints a pink background on all color pages. The magenta toner gets used quickly. Just to test we also put a different color cartridge in the magenta slot and we get the background of that color only lighter. Any suggestions on what to fix or replace?

This is a Color LaserJet 3600n. There are no printheads.

Thank you for the suggestion. However the Color LaserJet uses an electrostatic transfer belt technology. There are no printheads to be cleaned or aligned. The cartridges have been replaced. This will most likely be an engineering solution as in a replacement for the magenta toner cartridge motor, drive or gear.

The printer is printing everything with a pink tint and background. It is almost like the magenta toner is being applied too liberally.

Thank you for your suggestion. There are no ink cartridges on color laserjets, only toner and electrostatic transfer belts.

Reset the printer ...usually the resetting is made by shut down ...unplug ...
than replug and when you power it up ...keep the on reset button pressed ..a few seconds 0 or so ...it supposed to make a noise like a beep ... anyway ...take a look in the user guide cause there is explained in detail how to reset it ...cause it s different from model to model ...
you can also reinstall the driver ..to be sure it is not from a setting on the software that drives the commands..
in short ..the printer is color blind...it only is programed to take a color ..from a place ..when the processing ask for ...
so....it is just a setting from the printer ..like contrast ...nuance ...brightness...and so on ...
and by resetting it ......it will be on factory defaults.. ...
also ...the lack of blue color makes pictures look magenta in general if that is the case

also ...if this is just a case that you just changed the toner cartridge ..it may just need a good shake of the cartridge a few times if needed ...cause one of the color is stoned ....to say so...
but I do not think is the case from what you explained that you changed and the problem persist ..its just a setting from the machine ...that modify the tone of the general picture ...
the best way to fix in this case just reset and reinstall....it will be default set ..
if you do not have the manual and you need the exact way to reset this model I will look for ..just let me know .....
Regards, DrifterK

Try to take out the magenta ink catridge and shake it so that the ink will be redistributed evenly. Also, try blowing a canned air on the printer for the magenta's nozzle. If it does not work, then try changing the magenta ink cartridge as it may be faulty.

I think you need to take this to an authorized service center. If this is still under warranty, it will save you cost of repair.

Most cases run a alignment on the printer or replace the cartridges if that does not work the print head will need to be replaced. But try and do a alignment first and see if that clears it up and follow the rest of the steps if it does not..

    NICE!

Maybe I should had the model number before I answered your question ?

Maybe the issue would have been solved but that is okay, most printers have heads congradulations on the transfer belt findings.

Yeah i would check the cartridges indeed.

I suggest that you run print head alignment procedure, it is often found in the maintenance tab of your printer, if that doesnt work try dismantling the cartridges and try cleaning the heads manually using silk cloth or cotton cloth,

Excess cyan toner is on electrostatic transfer sheet even after wiping it. All black and white pages are printed with cyan background.I am even using original cartridges.

Since you have Cyan toner in places where it should not be then the only possible cause is a defective Cyan Toner cartridge. I worked on one just last week where the customer complained about Magenta toner on their prints. I also noticed Magenta toner on the Transfer Belt just as you see Cyan toner on the Transfer Belt. I replaced the Magenta Toner Cartridge and everything cleared up nicely. The Transfer Belt Unit can also cause similar problems but it would not be ONLY one color like Cyan. It would be a mixture of all colors. My bet is replace the Cyan toner and you will be fine. If you have an old empty one just shake it up a bit and try it as well. This might allow you to verify before buying a new cartridge.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

My hp colour laserjet 1200n printing red background

The magenta toner cartridge is probably defective. If you take the cartridge out and open the flap and see magenta toner all of the drum then it needs to be replaced.

We print color labels for dental folders. The Magenta is running out much faster that any other color by three to one.

If you are printing red or magenta tone colors more than any other the printer will use magenta much faster than the other toners.

Hi Everytning I print has a very narrow pink line straight down the centre of the page, also every so often the print has a black/yellow/blue/pink thick line running across the page. Thanks

The narrow pink line is coming from your magenta toner/drum cartridge. You may be able to open the from cover and look at the 4 toners. If you look at the magenta (like pink) cartridge, you might see the thin line on the drum surface.
The multicolored band that sometimes shows up on your prints is most likely the transfer belt unit. This is caused by an area of the belt that is not being cleaned very well. This probably tends to show up when you are running mutilple prints of a page.
So it looks like to may need to replace your magenta toner and look at getting a transfer belt unit.

Grey/dirty background on prints

Try cleaning the ETB.  Go to the secondary service menu (press the left arrow and stop buttons on the panel simultaneously until you see the secondary service menu), press the left button until you see "Clean ETB," then press the green check button to start the cleaning.  You may need to do this several times to get it clean.

check the locking tabs on the cartridge, sounds like they are not locking down the cartridge.

Magenta backgrounding

If the magenta is low the waste bin may be full and that may be causing the problem. If this is the case you need to change the toner. You can try calibrating the printer. You may have to do this 3 times in a row for it to make a difference.
Press Select-check mark button
Use arrows to go to Print Quality
Press Select-check mark button
Use arrows to go to Calibrate Color
Press Select-check mark button
Use arrows to go to Calibrate Now
Press Select-check mark button
Press Select to Confirm Calibrate Now
