Question about Cameras

1 Answer

How do I clean specs of dust from an olympus OM10 camera? I have an OM10 that has not been used for many years. My kid is hoping to use it in a college class she has next semester but I noticed it has specs of dust/dirt when I look through the viewfinder. How do I clean this. The price to service this camera is about 150.00 and a couple of weeks. I am not sure the camera is worth it, so I am looking to see if their is a DIY solution. Thanks

Well, you're right, not worth 150. Unless you have the plug in manual speed adapter for that camera, it's not really suitable for classroom work. The good news is that the specks you see in the viewfinder will not appear on any pictures taken with the camera. The mirror flips up and covers the viewfinder so the image created is straight to the film from the lens, ie the view finder is not part of the picture.

Olympus om 30 manual

The OM-30 has focusing system limitations. Most of the time, you can use the LED in the viewfinder to help you focus an image. If the lens you attach has a maximum aperture of F4 or smaller, (F5.6, etc) you set this switch to F4, then focus the lens manually using the prism gridlines visible in the viewfinder.

In short, just set the F4/F2 switch to whichever is the closest to the maximum aperture of the lens you are using. With an F1.8 lens, for example, you would use the F2 setting. For a lens with a maximum aperture of F3.5, you would use the F4 switch setting.

Just aquired an old olympus inverted microscope which needs cleaning and spare parts. The microscope is a binocular inverted microscope I would guess to be around 20+ years old it has a working light...

Olympus makes good microscopes so you have done well and stereo microscopes are so much nicer to use than singles. As far as cleaning the lenses goes, buy a good quality camera lens blower brush and also a can of compressed air like the ones used for computers. Blow any loose dust hairs etc off with the can of air and then use the brush for anything remaining. If there are fingerprints or grease on the lenses then clean them using camera lens cleaning fluid and lens tissue but make sure all debris and dust are removed first or you may scratch the lenses. In general try not to use anything more than air and a brush unless absolutely necessary. Another option for removing fingerprints etc is to use a "lens pen" with caution. The ones sold for cameras work well but may be too large. They make some smaller ones for cleaning camera sensors and those might work better for the relatively small microscope lenses or just cut the regular lens pen disk to make it smaller. It is just as important to make sure the lens is dust/debris free when using the lens pens.
Low power stereo microscopes often allow you to put on a single magnifier lens in front of the main objectives to increase magnification. Do a bit of searching to find what are options for your model.

My Olympus FE-230 makes buzzing noise when switched on and lens goes in and out and won't switch off and won't focus

Check for specks and chips on the lens first, if there are spots in the images. Take the lens off the camera and look through it at a low-level light source. If there is dust or lint, clean the external elements according to Olympus recommendations. Look through the lens again. If there still are spots, there may be dust on the internal elements. You will need to take the lens apart to clean each lens element. Taking the lens apart is a delicate procedure. Use Phillips-head screwdrivers or the Japanese crosshatch type. Lay out the lens and screwdrivers on a soft, lint-free cloth, and place each part of the lens in the correct order so that you can remember how to replace them. Clean each element with soft lens tissue or cloth or use a manufacturer-specific kit.

Have lint and small specs on inside part of viewfinder, how do you clean this

It may not be the view finder. My guess is that there's some dust on the lens. It will look like the dust is inside the view finder but its actually not. Do these "spec" appear on pictures too? If yes then you will need to clean your lens/get it cleaned.

Let me know if you need more help,
Sai.

Olympus Cameras

You can use the lens from your old OM camera on the EVOLT E-410. You would need to purchase an MF-OM-1 adapter to make those lenses fit the new digital SLR camera. Also when using those lenses the camera would need to be used in Manual mode as there is no auto focus capability when using the old OM lenses.

Olympus E-500 flash smelling like burnt plastic

You should contact Olympus about this.

Olympus have had a recall on some older 35mm film cameras for problems with the flash circuit.

Hope this helps,
