Toshiba HD-A35 region unlock

I am looking for an unlock code for the region lock of the Toshiba HD-A35KU. We just moved from Europe, with quite a collection of DVDs that we cannot play on our dvd player (as the player does not work with our new American TV). We then bought the Toshiba HD DVD (HD-A35KU) because we were told that the HD players have no region locks, but it now appears that is only true for when you play HD DVDs, not for the traditional DVDs.
