He is checking it now, and I am cringing, this is worse than his attempting to fix the car, he states that there is something running, but he does not know what it is, I knew I should of went to school for situations such as this!

Is the compressor running? Usually located bottom, back, behind a black cover. Round black ball looking thing with 3 tubes going in and coming out. One line should be HOT, the other warm, and the other is just a stub. There is also a fan down there, check that it is running. Do not lose the cardboard shield as it is important to maintain airflow.

If he hears something is running at the bottom back, it's probably the condensor fan. The black round ball like thing with tubes goiung in and out is the compressor. It will probably be either very hot, or very cool. And, it may click about every 10 minutes or so. If it does, you've probably got a bad compressor. Depending on how old the refrigerator, it might be better to get a new refrigerator for Christmas.

HOW DO I WIRE A TOGGLE SWITCH TO REAR DEFROST SWITCH. TOGGLE HAS 3 WIRES DEFROST HAS 6 WIRES?

You should not try to wire the switch to the actual switch harness, instead identity the relay that powers the defrost, because toggle switches are only to switch power on and off to a device.

Everything has defrosted the lights are still on. and there is no no noise coming from the back of it now.

If this is a self defrosting unit, the defrost timer may be stuck in the defrost cycle. Or perhaps the cold control went bad, or even the compressor or starting relay burned out.

Small chest freezer, running but not freezing, cold inside, everything defrosted

the freezer has a defrost timer and relay. if either is bad, it may get stuck in defrost mode(depending on what position the switch failed in). The fan will run constantly if this is the case. You may choose to follow the wiring diagram on the back of the service panel or hire a technician. If you do it yourself, unplug the unit for your safety

Ge sidebyside, made in May,'02. It is not keeping things cold on either side. I have a thermometer in the freezer side and it is reading45 degrees. I have cleaned out the back and vacummed out the dust and...

I could be the same thing but there are three components to the defrost system. And this is somthing you can probably do yourself.
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

I have a frigidaire freezer ffu21cwaw1 we lost power for 4 hours now the freezer sees to be defrosting. the power light is on and it is set to coldest but everything is defrosting. It is not a frost free...

There probably was a power surge from the power failure which has taken out your control board or the starter relay switch for the compressor.
