D600 laptop boot problem

I discharged(accidentally) the battery and the computer will not power up. I purchased a replacement battery. The green charge light showing the battery charging is on(not flashing) after inserting with the power supply plugged in. I press the power on button and nothing happens, except the green charge light goes out for a few seconds and then comes back on. Does the solid green light indicate the battery is fully charged? Any ideas on why the laptop won't power up? I've tried resetting the hd and the memory chips.

The D600 is plagued with power up problems for 2 reasons. First the connector on the motherboard to the power button is very sloppy and after awile it breaks contact. If you put pressure under the docking port area and press the power button it may start. The second is the memory slots. I know you said you replaced the memory, but it is the slot that is a problem. Remove the memory and put 1 chip in "A", then press down on the chip while trying to boot the laptop. If this works then get a peice of foam or pad and place it on the chip. When you put the cover back on it will push down on the chip and should boot. Repeat this process for "B".
The green light does signify a charged battery! This is also a possible reason for not booting. Remove the battery and try to boot with only the power supply. A shorted battery will stop the laptop from starting up.
If all of this does not help then remove the battery and the CD Rom, then try to boot. Finaly if nothing helps you should buy a new Laptop or a used one on E Bay. You could get a used D600 on E Bay that has a good motherboard for cheap money and use your drives and LCD. I work on D600 and D800 all the time. Let me know how you make out!

My nikon coolpix p530 wont turn on.

I take the SD card out and look at photos with my computer. If the battery is very dead it may not charge in the camera. Nikon cameras have a clock that runs when the camera is off. Fully charging it and leaving it alone for a year will most likely discharge the battery over 50%. If you have an external charger I would try that. When you charge in the camera you are right the power light come on and another light flashes. If you have an Electrical Engineer friend you could ask him/her to put a few volts on the battery to kick it back to life. A too deeply discharged battery may not charge in the camera

Dell c640 battery not charging

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

I have a latitude d620 i purchased used a couple of years ago. recently, my battery charger light has not been lighting unless i giggle the battery charger body. this has worked and the battery icon on...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

The battery light remains on unless the power

If the computer will run on battery alone, and you cannot fully charge the battery, it's probably time for a new battery. The life expectancy is 2-3 years if treated right. Some people get a lot more life than others.
Here's a suggestion: when you run your computer, let the battery run fully down at least once a month. Do not leave it plugged in to line power all the time. Do not keep charging it when it is only a little bit discharged.

Toshiba satellite A210 11-P crashes when i disconnect the power lead

From Toshiba, try step-charging the battery or Battery conditioning procedures:

Batteries don't last forever. All types of batteries gradually lose their ability to hold an electrical charge as they age. Eventually, the computer's battery charge indicator may show that the battery contains less than a full charge, even though the battery has just been fully charged. The computer will then not run for as long a time from the battery as when the battery was brand new.
You may prefer to simply replace the battery if this happens, but you may also wish to try 'step-charging' the existing battery per the following instructions.
This procedure should work for the battery in any Toshiba notebook. Follow it only when you find that the computer will run from the battery for just a short while.
Check the User's Guide for more specific information about charging the battery in your computer .

Procedure

Step-charging the computer's battery

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer, and turn ithe computer on. Let the computer run from battery power until the computer turns off, indicating that the battery is fully discharged. Time this interval, but not with a software clock running on the same computer.

  2. Remove the battery pack from the computer.

  3. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  4. Wait at least 30 seconds. The first time through this procedure, use a soft cloth to wipe the battery pack's contacts and the AC adapter's plug.

  5. Re-insert the battery pack.

  6. Plug into the AC adapter into the computer again and check the fit of its plug in the wall outlet, making sure the connection is secure.

  7. With the computer turned off, let the battery charge until the battery status light or icon glows green, or otherwise indicates a full charge.

  8. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  9. Remove the battery.

  10. Wait at least 30 seconds, then re-insert the battery.

  11. Plug the AC adapter back into the computer.

  12. Let the battery charge again until the battery status light turns green or otherwise indicates a full charge, again.
Repeat this procedure, starting from step 1, at least three times. Each time, check to see if the computer runs longer from its battery than the previous time.

Battery Conditioning:
IMPORTANT!!
Interruptions in the charging cycle can be responsible for an issue called "memory effect" which may reduce the battery's charging capacity. Whenever you suspect the battery performance is not at it's optimum you should try using the following "Battery Conditioning" procedure.

Before you start: Turn off your battery saving features temporarily.

***IMPORTANT*** Repeat the following steps 2-3 times!

  1. Unplug the power cord from the computer
  2. Turn the computer on and let it run until it shuts itself off.
Note: Using the CD-ROM to play an Audio CD will speed the discharge.
  3. Plug in the power cord (While the system is off) charge the battery until the battery light changes from flashing green to solid green
  4. Remove the battery for 30 seconds and then replace it.
Note: If the battery light isn't lit, wait a few moments, if it still does not light check your power connections.
  5. Continue charging the battery until the battery light turns solid green once again.
    **REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE 3 TIMES**

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
