Make sure there is paper in the tray.
Copying is not done through the computer
Place the document to be copied on the scanner glass
Press on the Copy button on the printer B&W or color.
That's all to it.

I just scanned the documents and then printed from the scanner.....I still can't use the copy function

That's my problem...when I hit the 'Copy' button I get the message (on the copier) that there is no black ink cartridge and it won't even attempt to copy.
I can however scan from this unit and in turn print from my computer...I still get the same message on my computer however, it sends a message to my copier to print and it does....go figure
BTW...this HP printer isn't worth $5 and it's only 6-mos old
