Re: Sony Vaio PCV-LX900

First and foremost, laptops are quite difficult to take appart. A great deal of care and know how are required. It is also very easy to further damage them if not correctly and carefully disassembled. I do not recomend you service this yourself, from experience I have broken quite a few laptops requiring far more work then the original problem/s. But to get to trying to help you. Remove all casing screws that hold the upper and lower case together or to other parts. if you look on the back of the monitor hinges, there are screws there, when removed you open the screen fully back and pull up on them to remove the top. This generraly holds the keybeard down. Be careful not to damage the keyboard cable. Unplug the keyboard and check for screws under it. You should be able to seperate the case now using a small screwdriver to push all the release tabs around the case. Good Luck, and again I don't recomend doing any of this.

First of all, the Sony Vaio desktop case is like trying to open Fort Knox. It is quite well built, but hardly gives any clues about how to open it to work on it inside. Here's a link that specifically addresses this situation:

How do I remove my DVD burner for replacement from my Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G? I get the two little screws out from the side, but then something hangs it up. Can't find what the hang up is. Thanks. Segalhund...

Segalhund, I appreciate your wanting a solution, but please refrain from stating your email addy.

There are three screws.
Facing the back of the computer.

One at the Top in the middle of the case cover.

One down on the Right side, straight across from where the monitor plugs into.

One down on the Left side straight across from where the monitor plugs into.

The cover is shaped like a hood, and slides towards the front of the computer.

I'm looking at the User Manual for the Sony Vaio PCV-RS720 Desktop PC right now.

This is Sony eSupport, and the download page for the Vaio PCVRS720G User Manual,

On this page left-click on Manuals, Specs, Warranty. (In blue to the upper right of the page)

On this page under the heading - Manuals -
left-click on - VAIO User Guide - in the list.

This is a PDF file. It may take as much as 30 seconds before you see the first page. Suggest you let it download all the way before looking through it.

Page 87 shows removing the cover.

Replacing the powersupply on a Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G desktop

Hi There,

From the looks of things that model will take a standard ATX power supply which would be available from and computer part dealer and ebay etc, get yourself a nice 400w replacement try and get a small form factor one if you can as it will be a tight sqeeze inside the case.

when replacing it you will have to open the case up (get an anti static wristband if you can, and work on a table rather that a carpeted floor) un hook all the connectors the old power supply (one in each drive and there should be 2 in the motherboard) you may have to pull the Dvd rom out slightly to get the new supply in, unscrew the 4 case screws holding the power supply from the back of the case. lift it out then put in the new one, screw it in using the case screws and connect up the internal power cables to the drives motherboard and new graphics card, close the case, plug in and voila

If you get stuck just ask and we will help

Installing standard third-party optical drives in VAIO PCV-650 case

Hi there. I've worked for Sony VAIO and can assure you that the only solution is to get a Sony Branded Spare parts. The parts of Sony VAIO are very specific. As of now I see that the only solution for you is to either contact Sony Service Center or go for an external DVD Drive.
