Playstation 3 My son's playstation 3 just stopped reading all disks out of the blue- and the disk icon doesn't appear on the screen. He swears he didn't drop it or anything. What can I do? Thanks!

Could try cleaning the laser in the drive with a drive cleaning kit you can buy from most electronic stores. Have you checked the game disk to see if it has scratches or fingerprints on it. Try to clean the disk as well. If still have problem try playing another disk to see if that one works

Yes the laser has come away a little you will need to readjust this you can do so with a good video guide or you can send it in and get it fixed.

This problem is caused by the PS3's motor, or the brain as we say it. There's a high possibility that it is damaged. Self-repair won't take you anywhere if you are not a professional playstation repairman. You should call Sony's customer service or have the PS3 sent for repair.

I have seen lasers burn out shortly after 1 year. They are available online for purchase. It would be the laser for sure if the system starts up fine, disks go into and out of the console and if there is an icon in top right of screen like it is trying to read. I have fixed a few but laser replacement usually cost $150. Good Luck

listen for the disc to start spinning

if the disc spinns then its prolly just a dirty laser lens and if it doesnt spin could be a bad laser i doubt its the blu ray logic boad cause the ones i have seen that were bad the disk reading icon never stops, this has also happened on broken lenses where it never stops. ussually if it stops its bad motor or dirty lense.

If all games are like this then you might have a faulty system if it's only a few or one then it might be the disk. If it's not the disk then I don't know
