Hello. A piece of plastic accidentally went into the unit and now it is jammed-when turning on power to the unit, I only hear a humming sound. What do I need to do to get it running again? Thank you. Gary

There should be a hex shaped end tool that fits up inside the bottom of the unit in the motor case and of course with the power off reverse the cutter assembly manually to free the piece thats stuck, then remove tool and power up and see if it turns again

Hormann 55000 won't engage and close door. Hums for a few seconds and stops.

There are a lot of people that have similar problems. Check the most obvious place first. That would be the two light units at the bottom of the door on the jams. one unit sends out a light beam and the other receives it. They have to be aligned for the door to work. Most often one of these units gets bumped out of alignment so the door stops working. I learned this the hard way myself. Usually one gets bumped and is an easy fix. Take a look at the metal bracket that holds the plastic unit in place. If it gets bumped there is a little plastic pin sticking up in between the two screws. You can tell if it has been moved because the plastic pin is out of the hole in the metal bracket. Carefully slide it around until it snaps back in and that should solve your problem. Be careful when you move it so you don't move or bend the metal bracket. I learned this the hard way too) If it doesn't work use a piece of heavy paper or cardboard. Find which unit is sending the light and if it hasn't moved work with the other (receiver unit) one. It is easier to re-align them when it is dark because the beam stands out better. Good luck.

How do you fix a boston Horizon Duo - I as the unit just turns on and makes a load humming sound and then th edisplay switches off

If you are lucky, it only went in protection mode and after disconnecting the power for a little while and reconnecting things could come back. But if the system did not have an overload protection, a fuse can be blown, or worse the power supply or power amp can be blown to pieces. There is one thing semiconductors don't like is work over their limit.

Low humming noise and burnt plastic smell coming from 1990 acura integra

Jennifer what type of timing belt does your engine use ?
Is it Nylon ? When was the last time you had it changed ?
Burning plastic smell may be being caused by the timing belt bearing runners seizing and the belt is getting hot .
If the belt is due to snap you could cause a lot of damage to the engine if it breaks.
Might be worth getting a mechanics advice on this as a possible cause

Kenmore 70 Series Washing Machine Just Hums (Won't Agitate)

First, see the Sears Parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.22712100

Also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Initial thoughts are a worn/broken motor coupler.

See the following for how to get to it and check it.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=135&osCsid=6019c5e82bfa177df953f5d6ebeac983

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission.

It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts.

Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.

It's possible that the prongs have broken and the humming that you hear is the pieces rubbing against the center rubber piece.

The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

Put too much paper in shredder- it jammed. I reversed the paper flow. Unit turned off. I've cleared the paper jam, but unit won't power up.

Sounds like the waste basket is not pushed all the way in. Your basket will have a piece of plastic (not in the middle, this is just a guide) probably on the right hand edge of the basket. This little piece of plastic pushes in on the safety switch. Take a flash light and look closely and you will see how this works. Take a Q-Tip and push in on this switch and see if it will power up.

Maytag dishwasher won't drain after i repaird a leaky gasket

The issue is almost certainly with the motor. Possibly the wires that were accidentally interrupted, and if not, it is jambed. It has nothing to do with your replacing the door gasket if you never touched the motor. If it is jammed, remove piping attached to flange and loosen until you see the impeller. Rotate the impeller . If it turns easily, problem possibly not motor. Let me know.

The dishwasher only makes a humming noise when I try to turn it on. What's wrong?

Sounds like the pump (not the drain pump) is not able to run. Perhaps something went into it and is jamming the pump. (bones, small pieces of glass, etc).

Garage Door opened but will not close. I opened

I think the trolley has jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and then run the door until it is closed. With the door closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Replace the bolt.

Hope this helps,
