That's odd
Usually its the other way around. ie stays down...
Remove the paper tray completely from the device and have a look inside,
is the pick arm lowered?
Check the RHS lift spring on the pick assembly, and the bell crank it attaches to. (these snap)

Hard to say from this end without a visual ...

Epson Stylus CX4800 prints blank pages

Alex_Garton:

I'm not familiar with the Epson Stylus printers, but I'm going to hazard a guess. If the paper does not move at all, the paper pickup feed mechanism is at fault. One of two methods is used to pick up the sheet. Either the front lower portion of the tray is lifted up to force the top sheet into the feed roller, or the feed roller is connected to a drop-swivel to drop the feed roller onto the top sheet of paper. You'll need to look carefully at the feed mechanism to determine if a gear or clutch is failing. If the paper moves into the machine about 1/2 inch and then stops, either the first paper feed roller past the pickup roller may be at fault. Also check to see if the paper sensor between the paper pickup roller and the first feed roller is working properly.

The printer wont load the paper in anymore it will grab it on the left side but not the right

Please help me here. What model printer are you using?

Does it have multiple paper trays?

More then likley, the paper feed rollers are either worn or contaminated with paper dust and are not letting the paper be grabbed and pulled from the tray properly.

It could also be the paper pick solenoid not mechanically pushing both sides of the spring loaded tray up into the paper feed roolers. Or in the case of a true paper tray, preventing both sides of the tray from lifting with the same force.

Dell 1700 will not feed paper

If your Dell 1700 laser printer is not pulling paper all the way, try cleaning the pick up rollers.

To access the pick up rollers. Turn off the printer. Unplug everything from the back of the printer. Take out the toner/drum and set this aside out of the light (the drum is effected by light). Remove the paper tray. Set the printer on its backside. The rollers are located on the underside of the printer where you just removed the paper tray. You may have to move a blue flap to get at the rollers. Take a damp paper towel and clean these off. Another possible solution is to take the grey rollers off and turn them inside out and then place them back on the printer.

The pick up rollers should not be shiney, or cracked and dryed out. If they are, they will not pick up the paper to feed it into the printer. The tires should have "traction" to them so that they can grip the paper and feed it into the printer.

Once you have the tires cleaned off or turned inside out and placed back on reassemble the printer and try printing.

241.10 paper jam

Um I don't know what the other guy is saying since your paper jam has nothing to do with where he is telling to look...

From the service manual:

Error 241 subcode 10:
Page was not properly picked from tray 1.

Possible Causes:
Failure to feed possible causes include:
• Edge locking
• Worn or contaminated pick tires
• Overfilling of tray past the fill line.

Action:

Fan media.
Turn media over.
Reduce amount of media loaded in tray 1.
Replace pick tires.*

To replace pick tires:

Integrated tray autocompensator pick roll assembly removal

1. Remove the integrated tray, and look underneath the printer for the autocompensator arm. Pull the arm
down.

2. Press on the end of the tab (A) and pull the pick roll off the arm. Repeat this step for the pick roll on the other side. Next, gently release the autocompensator arm. Discard the used pick rolls.

Installation
1. Remove the new pick rolls from their packaging.
2. Pull the autocompensator arm down. Locate the recessed area on the pick roll, and align it with the tab on the arm. There are two arrows on each pick roll. Make sure the bottom arrow faces you as you align the recessed area with the tab.

3. Push the pick roll onto the arm with the tab aligned. Repeat this step on the other side to install the other pick roll.

4. Gently release the autocompensator arm. Insert, integrated tray.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution as fixya.

Paper feed

Check tray 1 there should be an arm hanging down in the center of the tray the arm goes thru a slot in the metal plate. This arm moves when you install paper in tray 1. If the arm is missing or not in the slot the machine will think paper is in tray 1 and try to feed from tray 1. You can try changing the paper size setting for tray one to something other than the size in tray 2.

For example If tray 2 is set for 8.5x11 set tray 1 for legal.
The machine should then pull the correct size based on the print job.
Hope this helps

NP6050 false paper jam

Can you see the paper pick-up rollers try to move and pick-up the paper? Or can you hear it make noise? Also, is the problem in paper tray 1? You may have to adjust or reform a inter lock arm on the right side door. If you push the back part of the right top door closer, will it feed the paper? If so there is adjustments for the door and look for a bent Tab on the hing part of the top door about half way up. Just a note have the paper pick-up & paper feed and paper sep rollers been replaced?

Its caused by the rubber on the feeder wheels getting worn. And the fix is easy. Just peel the flat rubber rings off the rollers, flip them inside-out, and put them back on. Now your paper will feed all the way intot he machine. ( you can order replacements the next time)

Other: Dont use alcohol on these rubber parts, it only dries them out and makes it worse, you can wash them in soapy water though.

Use higher grade heavier paper, its a bit more expesnive but wont wear out your printer with jams and dust.

Most folks (including myself) think the rollers are actuated when printing, actually the paper tray causes the rollers to pop down onto the paper stack when you close the tray all the way. you cant see it, its like trying to watch the refrigerator light go off when you close the door! :)

Dell 1700 laser printer wont load from tray only manual

This is a common misconception with this model printer. People say that the roller does not drop down to pick up the paper. With this model printer, the pickup rollers ONLY drop when the paper tray is inserted. If you look on the top left edge of the paper tray towards the front of the printer you will see 1 1/2" to 2" section where the plastic edge is raised about 1/2 an inch. This raised part in the plastic actually serves as the mechanism for dropping the pickup rollers on to the paper.

So... The solution DOES HAPPEN TO BE cleaning or replacing the pickup rolers/tires. Rubber rejuvinator is the best for cleaning the rollers, but buying a whole can that you may only use once or twice may be a bit overkill. You can try cleaning them with soapy water if you do not have any rubber rejuvinator. DO NOT use alcohol, as this will dry out the rollers and shorten their lifespan even more.
