Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
My Xbox 360 will not read my games. When I put a game in the tray and close the tray it acts like there is not a game there, and where it should say "play game" it just says "open tray"
Your game isnt spinning. i would clean the spinner and the laser or if you want send it in for repair because it will go out in a month or so from a sign like that.

This is actually the sensors on the back of the DVD drive overheating. You can fix it by stopping the heat, you can do this yourself or you can send it in and they will do it for you.

This problem is almost always a Laser read error and 9 out of 10 times its just a dirty laser but here is the real problem you can't fix it with one of those generic DVD disk cleaners they almost always fail. You ready for the worst part, if still under warranty your going to have to send it back to Microsoft to get it fixed. Your now on a downward spiral where the laser will continue to get even dirtier and fail at a greater and greater rate. Some good news though if console is out of warranty because doing this simple fix will void it. All that needs to be be done most of the time and I repeat most, but not all the time, is dipping one end of a Q tip in Isopropyl Alcohol, rubbing the laser lens a few time in a clockwise motion, flipping the tip over to the dry side and doing the same thing for about 15 to 20 seconds. Use very little pressure to do this because while your doing it you will notice the laser lens is riding on a mini shock absorber system and pressing down to hard will throw this out of alignment and then you will really have a laser problem. Obviously this fix requires you to disassemble your 360 which will void any active warranty left on device. I wont go over how to disassemble the console here because there are thousands of guides on line to give you that info. When device is open simply disconnect the two cables attached to the back of the drive, one a standard SATA connection the other a proprietary power connector which you can pull straight out just like the SATA cable. Depending on what type of drive you have inside, "The most common drive that experiences this problem is the Hitachi GDR-3120L" you would then proceed to open DVD drive player to access the laser unfettered so you can clean it.
