This is single cartridge for black and color printing. With the combination of Yellow, Magenta and Cyan we get many colors including black. If you want to refill this color cartridge, you need refill ink.

Here is the way I bypass the alignment when I get a new cartridge: When the screen comes up that is asking for it, it does not have the option to "cancel" the printing of it. I just take the paper out of the printer and press "print". Since there is no paper in it, it cannot print. This will make the same screen come up again, but this time it has the "cancel" option. Now, every time I want to print something out, the screen that wants to print a alignment page comes up, and I just click on "cancel" - after that I can do my printing. This is a bit annoying, but it saves me some ink.
Looks like you have mentioned 2 printers. lexmark series 5300 all in 1 and the x2480. here is a link for the x2470 family which the 2480 is based. http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/2400/ug_en.pdf
Also here is the attached for the C5300 series mentioned just incase. hope they help.
remove the cartridge and make sure that all of the blue tape came off and that it didn't leave any sticky residue.
Did this fix it" If not, did you replace the cartridge because of red being out? The ribbon cable (the flat tape that flex's as the head moves back and forth) might be damaged. Check for sharp kinks or loose connections.
