Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a 63" Toshiba rear projection TV. There is a line in the picture. It actually appears that the glass is cracked, but the problem is actually inside.

A MODEL NUMBER WOULD HELP A LOT--I will make an educated guess.

The easy thing to check is (with the set unplugged!) remove the set's back cover and look up from behind at the screen---most likely thing is you are going to see a spider web across the inside of screen--

If this is the case the simple way is to use a swiffer type duster and reach up and remove it--do not apply force to it as you can scratch the inside of the screen.

Let me know what you find and if this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Alot of rear projection t.v.'s have a convergence option in the menu on the t.v. There you can set the try to set the colors back how their supposed to. Mine has a cross in the middle of the screen and you just have to try to get all 3 colors to line up. Unfortunately, the actual lens inside mine has to be aligned so it doesnt work. Just something to try though, hope it helps.

Sony KF50WE610 Vertical Blue Lines Across Screen

the vertical blue lines indicate some interference from other electronic gadgets near your tv. it started showing up on my sony grand wega when i installed my wireless modem. i almost ordered a new rear projection lamp costing over $100 but decided to experiment. i first moved my desk computer farther away from the tv then isolated the wireless modem router by placing it inside a small glass - the vertical blue lines became lighter in color so i dedided to find another small glass that fit inside the first glass container then put the router in the double glass - no more blue lines and my wireless modem router still works.
do some deductive thinking to figure out what's messing up your tv and isolate the interference.
good luck!

Appears that lint is on one of the lenses

this could be a contaminant inside one of the lenses, or possibly spider webs inside the tv.. This is a very common problem. Remove the back of the tv, you will be able to look around the back of the screen with a flashlight and see if there are any spiderwebs. at this time you should also clean your lenses and mirror with some glass cleaner . this will improve your picture as well.

Red green and blue lines

Most projection TVs have an option to refocus. For example, my Sony rear projection TV has a button on the front for focusing the lamps. Try finding this button or option in the menus with your remote. Projection TVs actually use three lamps, one red, one green and one blue. These need to line up exactly in order to form a good picture, and when they come out of focus, you see the edges which sometimes has the effect of a 3D image when you aren't wearing 3D glasses. Hope this helps!

43H70 Blue Convergence out of line and will not line back up

If the blue colors will not line up, and the blue appears to sag inward from one or more sides, then you can bet that one of your convergence IC's has either cracked loose or burned out. The IC should be resoldered or replaced and the convergence realigned by someone experienced with projection TV convergence circuits.

Three seperate colors on Screen

Screen may have a hair line crack in it causing projection to be distorted. Inspect screen very closly with magnifying glass if necessary to insure no cracks. If crack is found replace screen.
