Question about Ariens Garden

1 Answer

On my ariens snow-blower: Drive shaft spins but the blades don't I got the assembly apart, but can't find any broken pieces of metal or anything like that. Is there a pin inside/outside that I'm missing that could cause this? This thing is old, I remember using it with my father when I was about 8 or 9 (i'll be 35 in Feb). Thanks!

Most of these are connected to the Coil as one unit. You may have to buy the whole assembly.

When in gear right wheel drives left wheel is locked and will not move same when not engaged

Many snowblowers use pins (or bolts - see image below) that pass thru the shoulder of the rim of the tires thru a hole drilled thru the drive shaft. Removing both of the pins allows the tires to spin freely on the drive shaft and makes it much easier to push, pull and turn the snowblower. If they are not installed again, the machine will not "drive" and make clearing snow difficult to do. Installing only one will make the machine want to go in circles. Make sure you have these pins installed thru BOTH rim shoulders and drive shafts - locked in place. Other machines lock the tires in other ways - since it sounds like one side is working correctly - you should compare the two tires / rims and make them both look like the one that works properly. Good luck!

Ariens st350 snow blower wont blow snow, augers wont spin

there is a bolt that goes thru auger and spinning shaft (look for a hole where it once was) holds the augers to the spinning shafts, it is called a shear pin, it is a safety feature, and made of softer metal, so if you pick up something too hard with the auger, it wont lock up the engine, or break engine crank shaft.find an ariens repair shop to purchase the shear pin so you get the right softness of metal.

I have a snow king 5hp snow blower. while clearing snow, the snow only oozes out the shoot.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A TWO STAGE SNOWBLOWER WITH ONLY ONE STAGE WORKING. I BET THAT YOUR PROBLEM IS THE AUGER IS TURNING BUT THE IMPELLER BLADE THAT IS BEHIND THE AUGER HAS PROBABLY JAMMED UP WITH SOMETHING AND IS SPINNING ON THE SHAFT. YOU WILL HAVE TO REACH BACK AND GRAB IT AND TRY TO TURN IT ON THE SHAFT BY HAND.MAKE SURE THE BLOWER IF OFF!!!! . IF YOU CAN TURN IT BY HAND EASILY IT HAS EITHER BROKE A SHEAR PIN OR BOLT OR SOME TIMES THEY WILL TACK WELD THEM TO THEM TO THE SHAFT. GOOD LUCK

I have a ariens 24 "sno tech it will not throw

The most common cause of this is the drive belt is worn. If you remove the cover (usually plastic) in the middle of the snow thrower and look at the belt closest to the blower assembly. This is the blower drive belt. (Your operators manual will show you the location and how to remove the cover if you are unfamiliar with your snow blower)
With the engine not running, have someone depress the drive lever and check the belt. You should only be able to depress the long side 1/2 inch or less. More than that the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced. On some older blowers you can adjust the tension pulley, but most made in the last 15 years, you can't.
The belt may be frayed on the edges or glazed causing it to slip (it is shiny on the sides of the belt)
You can get parts (the new belt) through your local Ariens dealer or jackssmallengines.com

I have a Sears snow blower. It is not throwing even a light snow. On engaging auger both sides spin slowly. I observed one side of the auger stops spinning when proceeding into snow pile. What may be the...

many Sears/Craftsman snowblowers have a shear bolt on the auger shaft or one on each side. This bolt is designed to break under a specific amount of force to prevent damage to the gear box or drive assembly if the blades encounter an immovable object or something becomes jammed (even a newspaper buried in the snow can cause this). They likely broke at some point during use in the past and you did not realize this, or they were not properly installed when the blower was new. If you check the auger shaft and find one or 2 holes that look like something should be there, then you found the most likely problem. If you reply with the model I can tell you exactly where to look and the part # or if you realize the bolts are missing you can contact that parts dept at Sears with your model and they can provide replacement bolts. Can be a pain with small things but a lot less expensive than a new gearbox.

Only one blade turns automatically on Ariens snow blower.

There is a bolt that goes through the center of the shaft that shears off if you hit something. You will need to line up the holes of the internal shaft with the auger tube and install a new bolt.
