Question about Kitchen Appliances - Others

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool dryer and the belt broke so I got a new one, it appears to be to long, but i checked it against the lenght of the old one and they are the same. How do you get the extra slack out of the belt so it is tight against the drum? Thanks, Mike

The belt must be routed through the belt tensioner. That would account for the extra "slack" in the belt. Be sure you have installed it correctly and double check to make sure the belt isn't twisted when you install it.

How do I get to the belt on a indesit tumble dryer

Howdy Anony,

It appears to be a UK brand... so I'll just skip over the electrical cautions... over there you-all have resident knowledge therein...
(how exciting higher voltages can be).

Having already ordered the part (belt)... and perusing the PARTS site for helpful hints... I can only add you are going DEEP into the cabinet...

GENERAL Cleaning & sprucing-up opportunity; Bring a Vac.

If your dryer is thumping or squealing... now is the time to consider adding a ROLLER KIT... TO THIS ENDEAVOR... otherwise you will only be moving the DRUM enough to insert the new belt around the drum.

Typically you need to remove the top...

find the old pully run.... (often merely around the drum)... to attempt to determine if the BACK or the FRONT needs to be removed...

Two screws and a lift off of the retainer clips should give you access.

Find the old belt... remove it and compare it to the lenght of the new belt...

If it compares... proceed with the install... else: GET the RIGHT part.

The tension (idler arm) pulley springs in the direction which gives a fuller belt wrap on the motor pulley.

Make sure the drum is resting atop all of its support ROLLERS... Reattach the removed panel above,,, checking the body seams to be sure the body hooks are all engaged and replace the screws.

Top on... Game over... Hope this was Helpful

My dryer belt broke. (a) Does the belt go over the top of the tensioner wheel? (b) Or, does the belt go under the wheel (tensioned fork/wheel needs to be removed to allow the belt inside the fork). In (a)...

The belt goes on the drum, and on the motor pulley. The tensioner pulley is pulled past the belt, pulling against the spring, and pulls the belt taunt.

Is60v belt replacement. The replacement belt seems difficult to fit.size/ belt number checked against old one & details are the same. What is the method of replacing / refitting the belt?

The belts do appear to be undersize, this is because they are a stretch belt, and this makes them very difficult to fit.
Remove the top cover and right hand side panel of dryer, this will give you access to the belt.
Move the front panel forward to fit the new belt on the drum, and then you really have to pull hard down on the belt to get it round the motor pulley.
It is very difficult.
Good luck.

Whirlpool dryer LER8857EQ1 heats, doesn't spin, belt not broke.

Most likely appears to be the driving motor, try to hear for a humming noise, when the start bottom is pushed.

Whirlpool gas dryer won't spin and there is a deep humming sound with an electrical odor

Sounds like the drive belt has broken and is rubbing against the motor pulley, which causes the smell.
You can order a new one online, or from Sears. Replacement is a matter of gaining access to the inside of the dryer, remove the old belt, and figuring out how to get the new belt around the drum and motor pulley.

Belt broke and there is a small plastic part melted lying in bottom of dryer housing that looks like maybe some kind of a guide for the belt+a shoe type device lying in the bottom, looks like the belt goes...

sounds like the plastic take-up pulley on the motor which is spring loaded to keep the drum belt tight. You will have to replace the tensioner which should, depending on the model, include a new plastic pulley.

How do I get to the belt on my Mdaytag SDE 3606 AYW

Its not a hard job...just time consuming because you have to remove the front panel and the front screws for the top panel, to allow it to lift up. (or on the newer Maytags, made by Whirlpool...the top may come off first, then the front). That allows access to the dryer drum and the belt runs around it. The belt also runs around the idler wheel assembly, so be sure to make a diagram (or if you have a digital camera, take a photo) before removing the old belt, so you know how to re-install the new one.

As always, before working on any electrical appliance, be sure and unplug if first. It also helps to move the dryer out into the kitchen and against a counter top, so the top lid has something to rest against when you raise the front of it up.

Here's a good website with photos that will help you better than I could explain it:
http://repair2000.com/wpoolbelt.htm
Maytag is manufactured by Whirlpool and even if your model doesn't look exactly like the dryer in the photos, it will be close enough to help you.

Hope that helps
