Carpet/Floor Switch problem on Hoover WindTunnel Vacuum

I have a problem with my Hoover WindTunnel Vacuum. The Carpet/Floor switch seems to be off. When turn to carpet, the vacuum runs really faint. I have to put down pressure on the switch (not quite to the 'floor' setting) for it to work. As of recently, even that's not working.

I was able to access the switch area and there seems to be wiring, etc. that I didn't feel comfortable messing with. I can follow directions as long as it doesn't touch electrical.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the recommendations guys! The wheels ARE turning, literally. The brushes work fine once I was able to 'engage' the setting. I can mess with replacing the switch. I was afraid someone was going to recommend soldering, etc.

    Thanks again!

Well, you have to deal with it, you have to play with this electrical things if you want to fix this problems.

The good news is, the sources of the problems is the switch already broken. The first things before you do anything is, find this switch on the market first to changes the old ones. Then, remove the power cord from the outlet of course.

After have it, then you must open the old switch, and remove it from the unit by cutting the cables using cutter/ pliers or anything. But remember, you must remember the locations of each cable that been cut, you can use Camera Cellphone to make sure of it if you like.

Then put the cables back together with the new switch, after all done, clean all the mess and try operate it.

Hope it works!!!

Hi,
There is a couple of things I would check. First, is the beater brush Turning ? Check this by turning the vacuum on and laying on its side to look, but don't touch. If it's turning ... great, if not then you need to replace the belt. Second, with the vac unplugged check all hose's and ports for clogs.

Hope this helps,

The easiest way is to lock the vacuum in the upright position and then tilt back slightly (raising the drive wheels) slide the carpet / hard floor switch to the desired position.

Be sure the selector switch is set to carpet and not "floor" would be the easiest thing to check first.

Move the carpet height control switch to a higher position if the vacuum is difficult to push. If the setting is too low for the carpet being cleaned, the brushes press against the floor preventing the vacuum from moving easily.Set to a medium-high height setting then check.Slide the "Self-Propel" button to the "ON" position if the cleaner does not self-propel. -----------
The self-propel feature operates only when the cleaner switch and the self propel button are both ON. ---------- Try this settings and check. This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The carpet / floor switch is a mechanical assembly. the bottom cover needs to be removed to expose the screws for the hood cover to be removed. then the switch can be accessed for repair

Beater bar

There may be a shutoff switch, located on the hood, that shuts off the agitator to permit bare floor cleaning. Return the switch to carpet mode.

your floor adjustment spring is broken there is a plastic slider and clip if it is broken the height adj will not work you should get a new vacuum because this repair can cost as much as a new vac.also this is a common problem with the hoover brand I would get a sebo or an oreck they have a great warrentty and you will more than likly never buy a other vac.

Hoover Windtunnel carpet level adjustment

The suction is so great that it sucks up your carpet, then nothing works. I get my children to stand on the corners/edges of the rug so that it stays perfectly flat on the floor while I vacuum. Or, you can turn off the brush roller (set it to "hard floor" setting). Or, tip the vacuum cleaner's front up slightly while vacuuming, to reduce suction.
