Question about Brother IntelliFax-2820 Laser Fax

Changed the toner cartridge in fax machine and it said to clean the corona. I vacuumed close to it and also slid the blue button back and forth 10 times. it still will not work. what now?

Reset the machine and if that does not work replace the drum unit...

Either your machine's
primary corona wire for printing may be dirty, or the sending party's fax scanner may be dirty. Clean
your primary corona wire. I recommend placing the drum unit on a drop cloth or large disposable paper
to avoid spilling and scattering toner.
1. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab from right to left several times.
2. Return the tab and snap it into the Home position, (Caution: If the tab is not at the Home position, printed pages may have vertical stripes).
3. Reinstall the drum unit into the machine.
4. Close the front cover.
5. Plug in the power cord first, and then plug in the telephone cord.
or ask the sender to make a copy to see if the problem is with the sending machine.

You can also try these steps below

2 Reset the drum counter if you have already changed the drum recently. Open the device's front cover and press the button labeled "Clear," then close the cover and press the "1" button on the device's control panel.

3 Pull down on the top of the device's front cover. Slide the print cartridge assembly out of the inside of the printer and place it on a scratch piece of paper.

4 Depress the lever on the right side of the assembly and separate the toner cartridge from the drum assembly. Remove the new drum unit from its aluminum bag and snap the toner cartridge into it.

5 Place the print cartridge assembly back into the device and keep the front cover open. Press the "Clear" button, then press "1." Close the front cover once the device's screen reads "Accepted."

How to clean the corona wire on Intellafax 2800,2810, 3800 machines


Does your brother printer or fax machine have bad printing such as very light print or spotty print. If you have these problems chances are you have a dirty corona wire. The corona wire is used by the printer to put a charge on the paper so the toner is attracted to it in the pattern that the laser draws out. Below are the directions to clean the wire.
1. Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
2. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3. Return the blue tab and click it into the Home position.
4. Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the MFC/Printer.
5. Close the front cover.

Be sure to return the sliding blue tab back to the home position next to the arrow or you will have dark streaks on your printouts

The fax machine is saying remove the drum there is dust on the corona wire.


Use the corona cleaning wire to clean the dust off. Open the front cover. Remove the drum/toner unit. look on the right side of the drum portion above the toner unit for a plastic tab with a triangle arrow that points to the left. Slide this tab back and forth several times. Move the tab back to the right. Reinstall the drum/toner unit. Close the front cover.

Clean the corona wire in this manner every time you change the toner/drum.

Copies are black and where is this corona wire? I


Your cartridge has two sections, the drum and the toner section. The corona wire is on the drum section. There should be a blue tab on the top left hand side of your drum unit. Slide this tab across the cartridge one or two times, returning the tab to its original position. There should be an arrow on the blue tab that will match up with an arrow on the drum unit when the tab is in its resting position. Performing this action cleans the corona wire inside the cartridge. If this doesn't fix it you may need to purchase a new drum unit.

I have a KX FL511 fax machine. I just replaced the toner but it is still making faded out vertical lines on the sheet. on left side, middle, and mid right part. I have cleaned glass and roller with rubbing...


There are two things to try. First, did you shake the toner cartridge back and forth prior to installing? This evenly distributes the toner throughout the cartridge. A lot of people skip this step or just give it a perfunctory shake. The other thing to check is although you cleaned the drum/roller assembly, did you clean the Corona wire? This is important because a dirty wire will interfere with proper disbursement of toner as well. The wire should have a TAB that rests on the side. Run the TAB back and forth a few times to ensure the wire is clean and return the TAB to is resting spot.

These 2 steps should fix your problem. If they don't you either have a bad toner cartridge (check the date) or a bad drum. Best of luck to you.

Verical lines of inconsistent or un-even printing,


In almost every case, the problem you describe can be traced back to 2 things. Dirty corona wire or dirty drum (or both). Pull out the toner cartridge, slide the wire cleaner back and forth a few times, clean the drum. The gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side to evenly distribute the toner and replace. This should solve your problem. Best of luck.

"Toner Low" keeps showing


Hi Meridy!
There could be a few reasons for the Toner Low msg you're getting.
  1. The toner wasn't evenly distributed when the cartridge was changed (shake gently from side to side before installing)
  2. The cartridge wasn't properly installed (ensure that the lock lever "clicked" into place
  3. The corona wire wasn't cleaned when changing the cartridge or the the blue tab wasn't put back in place (this is less likely the issue but still a possibility)
  4. The new toner cartridge was old and is now defective

Changed the Toner in Fax Machine and Still reads "Low Toner"


First, the obvious
  • Did you gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side to evenly distribute the toner?
  • Did the cartridge "click" into place?(did lock lever pop up when it was inserted)
  • Did you replace the protective cover securely?
Another thing to check is cleaning the Corona wire inside by sliding the Blue tab back and forth several times. Important to return the Blue tab back to the "Home" position afterward.
If you've done ALL of these steps correctly, and the low toner message is still there, a service call is in order. Best of luck with your machine!

Black vertical streaks on faxes & copies


On top of the toner/drum cartridge there should be a blue slider, move back and forth 10 times.

If no fix, you need a new toner cartridge.

Dust on Drum...


I had this problem too. I took out the drum and vacuum the drum with a vacuum cleaner ( no brush ) while at the same time manually rotate the drum cyclinder. It worked. After a month or two, you might have to do it again. But everytime, it solved the dust problem.
