When I turn on my Epson DX8400 it says that I have a paper jam that I can't find. The print head cartridge container goes across to the left in its usual warm up sequence, then make this awful noise and stops there. The error message comes up about paper jam. Any ideas, thanks

The paper has run out or a Paper Jam has occurred. Load more paper or, if there is still paper left, find and clear the paper jam. There is probably a small microswitch in the paper path that has stopped working or there is a small piece of paper jammed in the switch.

An error occured you need to delete the error by unpluging the printer from its power source:

    1. Turn on the printer and the error and lights will blink

    2. Unplug it from the wall

    3. 70 seconds later plug it back in this should have cleared the error from the printers motherboard.

If it persists after clearing the error then the problem maybe the
alignment of the paper feed assembly and the printer will need repair.

Other user tell us (I dont know if this work for your model):
    1. Turn printer off
    2. Press stop then maintenance and power holding all three down
simultaneously until a message appears to turn the printer off
    to reset.
    3. Turn the printer off theb back on and you should be
    good to go.

    Good Luck!

How do i reset my printer

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

take a look at the back of your printer there should be a panell that comes off if you can take that pannel off look in there there is most likely paper stuck back there not allowing your printer to spool

My Epson Stylus DX8400 has paper jammed. I have followed instructions to try to remove it but I cannot see any paper when I lift the lid of the scanner

Have you turned the printer off for a minute or 2, this will reset the sensor which threw up the error message, often works

Our printers epson c42ux red light is on stand still

A permanently on red light can mean several things. If the green light is also ON, it means that you heve no paper loaded, an empty or faulty ink cartridge, or a jammed paper feed. I presume you have loaded paper. You say you have changed the ink cartridges. Note that BOTH cartridges must have ink for the printer to work. The simplest way to check this, or to check for a faulty cartridge, is to try another new set of cartridges - compatible cartridges are very cheap on EBay - about £3 a set in the UK.

To check for jammed paper, remove the paper from the sheet feeder and look carefully inside it, and inside the printer (lift the lid) for scraps of jammed paper. Remove any you see. Press the ink/paper feed button and see if it goes through a paper feed cycle. Reinsert the paper and try it again. If it works, turn the printer off and on again, and it should now be OK.

If the green light is OFF, it means you have a Carriage problem, i.e. something is fouling the print head when it tries to go from side to side. Check this with manual movement. Turn the printer off. After a few seconds, turn it back on again. As soon as the print head moves, pull the power cord out of the back of the printer. You should now be able to move the print head across to the left side (gently!) by hand, then move it back to the right and see if it will go fully into its parking bay at the right hand end. You should be able to tell if someting is hindering its movement anywhere.

Please report back with a new comment if none of this solves the problem.

Epson DX8400: how can i get it to print black only

Sorry Desperate. All inkjet printers, from all companies,  are programed to only operate with ink in all containers to avoid other problems. Their is no workaround. Please rate me not harshly just  because you don't like the answer. Rate based upon the truth of an answer.

Dx8400 will not take 260gsm photo paper

Maximum thickness allowed in this printer is 250gsm for Premium Glossy, therefor the paper appears to outside the specification of the machine. Only answer is use slightly lighter paper.
