I just changed the toner cartridge on my hp laserjet 1020 and now the entire background of each print has a very fine gray tone

put the old cartridge back in and run, did the grey background go away? More then likely just a defective toner cartridge you simply need to replace again and if the company you bought it from is reputable they should give you a new one at no more cost to you... Hi, I have HP LaserJet 1020 and few days ago three tiny black dots appeared on the left side of the printed pages, just by the border. The borders apper at regular intervals. I found somewhere that it...

dots printed are from the cartridge, you proved that with the change to the old one. If the fuser was faulty, it would repeat the dot 2.5 times down an 8.5 x 11 page
Replace the cartridge and please use HP , remanufactured cartridges fail prematurley and usually wind up costnig more in service and repair/exchanges.

Hp laserjet 1020 squeaks when printing

In 90% of cases, the squeak is generated from the toner cartridge. Try changing the cartridge. If that does not work, it will possibly be coming from the fuser area at the rear of the printer or the exit rollers where the paper comes out.

first of all try changing the toner cartridge, if doesn't work yet take a look on fuser. If the problem is on the back of paper, look in transfer, maybe needs to be cleaned.
