Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

My Sony Vaio keeps shutting down, even when adaptor is hooked up. Seldom ever use battery. When it does come on, it asks to open in "safe mode". I have taken off the adaptor, replaced it with another, but the problem is still the same. When it does open up, I can have it on for hours, other times (most of the time), will open in "safe mode" but will shut down immediately. What do you suggest?

SOURCE: SONY VAIO CMOS BATTERY LOCATION

Correction...

The CMOS battery is located under the system board, and is not accessible from under the keyboard.

The keyboard has to be removed in order to change the CMOS batter, (another reason why I don't like Sony laptops.)

Below is the batter I just pulled from a user's VGN-FS660\W 892cbd5.jpg

It should be located somewhere on the motherboard wich means pulling the computer completely apart which unless you know what you are doing may be a little difficult for some, but not inpossible.

Inorder to log into safe mode, you need to shut down the computer, then as soon as you turn on the computer, keep tapping the F8 key, you will get loads of options, select Safe Mode and hit Enter. its same with all the windows version.

Sony Vaio will Won't start on normal mode.

Ok startup in safe mode but choose System Restore, do that and follow instructions. Restore it to a time when it worked, ya should get a choice of restore points.choose the most recent one. If that doesn't work ya gonna have to reinstall ya operating system from DVD again.

Only strts up with the power cord connected, but takes me to a window that makes me pick safe mode, go to the prior set up, o normal estart up tried all but gets me back to that window

It sounds like your battery has died on you. If you start it up and when you can see anything pull the power cord out. if it just dies on you then that is your problem. A replacement battery is $70-$150 depending on where you get it from. It pays to shop around online and even around town.

The rest of your errors should just be caused by windows not shutting down properlly. When you get your battery fixed it should go back into safe mode once more and then reboot properlly into normal windows.
It is possible that windows has become corrupted but not shutting down which means it would need to be reinstalled.

Shuts down on AC in less than 3 minutes after boot but not in safe mode. Works fine on battery only. Charges battery fine. DC output voltage 19.77 VDC. Sony Vaio PCG-K35

Sorry about your SONY problems.
You may want to try another charger,
Your charger changes your input voltage from A/C 120V / 220V to a constant regulated 19.77 ? Volts DC. or direct currant.
If your charger is allowing to much A/C to pass to the Unit, the unit may charge OK but with sense the incoming and as a protection, will shut down the power source.
I would take the charger to a Radio Shack or maybe someone qualified to check it !
If the charger is fairly old and you live in a lightning area, this may be the case.
If your unit will run without the charger attached, Boot it up regularly ( not in safe mode ) and make sure the battery if not at fault.
If you have a battery check utility !
Hope this information has helped you with your problem.

Keeps powering on and off.

Keep in mind since you cleaned it out, only have the AC adaptor hooked up to rule the battery out. If the laptop stays on with only the ac adaptor hooked up and doesn't shut off then you know that the battery is faulty. If it still shuts off even with just the ac adaptor hooked up then it could be the ac adaptor.

Also check one more thing, with only the ac adaptor hooked up, wiggle the cord where it plugs into the laptop and see if the laptop shuts off, if it does then the dc jack on the motherboard is loose and needs to be resoldered back into place so it stays put.

Sony PCG-F340 keeps shutting down

Old Sony laptops do this when the battery is dead, or the charging system is below required voltage. A battery with a dead cell (which this sounds like) can damage your external PSU and internal battery/power regulator circuit. Remove the battery (shut down and disconnect PSU first). You can run the laptop forever, without the battery, if you cannot find a battery replacement, or do not like the cost. Obviously, though, the laptop will not run at all without the AC/PSU connected when the battery is removed.
