Hi.

You can try first disconnecting power cord for two minutes and check if this is clearing the error.

If that does not work, next step will be entering in maintainance mode, and this should be done by a technician.
I suggest at this point calling Brother at the number listed on the owners manual, but if you want to proceed I will post instructions below:
To display or check error code: pull the mains cable out of the machine (power off), hold down the Menu/Set key, re-insert the mains cable into the machine (power on). The internal Machine Error Code will be displayed.
To enter in maintenance mode:
On FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the following sequence: Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds.
Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the “up arrow” key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press 8 and then 0 keys to recall the machine's log information list (function code 80).

3) Press Start key several times to scroll down through the log menu until you reach the reset command

4) perform a reset.

You can get rid of the error resetting the purge count. Brother suggests to call service.

Do the following , I quote from Fixyourownprinter:

"Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.
This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart"

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!
