    error code 5100

  • AParadis Aug 24, 2008

My MP600 was in the middle of a very large print job and started making a slight clunk sound at the right end of the printhead travel. It got louder andf finally had the error 5100. I turned the machine off and restarted it, removed and reseated the ink tanks and printhead and it is going OK for now. Will try putting a bit more grease on the end as described when the error comes back. It is running quiet again, so I think just moving things around may have transferred enough grease to the area for at least a little while. I can see where the grease is getting moved around and piled up in non-contact areas of the assembly. Thanks (again) for the help here!

Try this solution..from fixmyprinter.com

This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

I had the same problem, but only when printing DVD labels. Paper printing was OK, but the DVD cartridge seem to get jammed - either going in or half way through the print job.
My fix: Clean the DVD cartridge - spray the underside with RP7 or WD40 type spray. Then wiped it off again with a tissue. The cartridge now slides in-and-out very smoothly. No groaning from the mechanism, no knocking sounds and no error codes (so far).

Canon MP600 Printer - How do I fix error code 5100

Hi Whitey621
Error code 5100 Try
Solution 1:
Look inside for a tiny object like a piece of paper, a staple...

Solution 2:
There is a thin plastic strip running across the width in front of and below the drive belt: there are fine black vertical lines on this strip. If the strip gets a piece of crud on it, you get an error during the start-up sequence.
Gently clean this strip with a damp lint-free tissue

I have an error code 5100 on my MP600 Canon printer.

Error 5100 is Carriage error.Possible problems in:
- Carriage unit
- Timing **** strip film
- Logic board assembly
- Carriage motor
First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

This means there is something jamming the mechanism. You should take it to a repair specialist or do your best to check for blockages yourself. It can be the tinest little thing. Check everywhere!

Solution 2:

Canon MP630 error code 6502

Error 6502 is the ink tank position sensor error. Basically means the printer can't see the inks. Try reseating them. If this fails you need to send it back.

My canon MP600 PRINTER

There's a couple things you can try:

First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.

Double check that your ink tanks are seated right too

If you STILL have the error code, try these two types of resets:

To clear the memory:
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
To do a stop/reset:

To clear error messages displayed on the LCD or if the printer is not functioning as expected, it may be necessary to simultaneously press Stop/Reset and ON/OFF buttons.
  1. With the printer powered on, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the <Stop/Reset> button then press the ON/OFF button.

  2. Once the printer is powered off, hold down <Stop/Reset> and then press <ON/OFF>.
If none of the above clears it up, you may have to have the machine serviced.. check to see if you are still under warranty.

Good Luck!
