Take your Mac OS disk (leopard or tiger, etc) and restart your mac with the disk in the drive. As soon as you hear the famous mac chime, press and hold the C key until it launches the OS on your Mac OS disk you inserted.
Once you get to the install screen, DON'T INSTALL OR DEINSTALL. Rather look at the top menu and launch the disk utilities application that you'll find in the list in the menu. Run a verify and repair disk, and then repair the permission as well.
Then do a restart. You should be back up.

Open folders disappear off side or topof desktop

Possible solution: Click "System Preferences" in the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Click "Expose' & Spaces". It was called "Dashboard and Expose'" in previous OS versions.

Look at the Expose' section. If you see anything about a mouse button next to "Show Desktop", click on it and change it to "-" (dash). I'm guessing this feature is mapped to one of your mouse buttons, such as the middle button. Clear that, and you won't be triggering it accidentally.

Hope that makes sense.

Good luck!

Boot up the mac with the instal disk holding down the c key on your keyboard once it has booted up go to the menus and you will see a change the password item, use this to change the password. Once you have changed it quit out off the instal disk. Hope this helps.

Normally if you reinstall the Mac the files wont be erased and you are just repairing it.

If you dont find the HDD option while reinstallation, it would mean that the Hard Disk is Crashed.

Mac Book Pro Monitor Problem

Hey buds. I am a tech for apple computers and the best they are gonna do is tell you to take it in for service. There is not much more to be done since it is a MacBook Pro. I have sent several of these in for service myself. I highly suggest that if you are still under the one year warranty that comes with the computer than you call in right away. If you have the APP, still get it done sooner than later. Not much help im afraid.
