Question about Allied Telesyn Computers & Internet

Open Question

No communication to device on coax connection. TX light flashing on coax side. No RX light coming on. I have a 50 ohm terminator on the coax cable. I have moved the MDI switch between the 2 positions (MDI - MDI-X). When I power up my device and the ATMC15 I get the ON LINE light, the TX light, and the RX light on. RX and ON LINE lights go out. I try pinging from my PC via the RJ45 connection on the ATMC15 but get no response.

SOURCE: cobra 29ltd classic : no rx / tx

Hi,

D23 is the reverse protection diode and it shorting is the primary reason your fuse blew. As you posted, power was applied in reverse, hence other components would also fail. Pls check:
1. D22 - 9.1V Zener Diode
2. TR23 (2SC1096) 9 Volts regulator
3. D19 - 5.1 Zener Diode
4. IC4 (TA7222) - Audio Amp
5. TR14 (2SC2029B/10) - Finals
6. TR15 (2SC2028B/20) - Driver
7. Most capacitors over 220uF (like C123, C114 & C112)

Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

you did not specify where the wap is connected when you pinged it. Try this, connect the wap54g to your pc. Assign static ip 192.168.1.5 on the lan of the pc, then ping 192.168.1.245. if you can ping you should be able to access the configuration page. if the power is still blinking you can upgrade the firmware

SOURCE: Red RX/TX and red ANT light on my CB

Well, first hand ,some cobra radio,s have red some have green RX/TX lights, but are you modulating? Some green lights turn red. What is your standing Wave on the antenna,s? You need to check it and the output of the radio. To do this you need a watt or field strenth meter. Can get one at Radio Shack. Your standing Wave is ok as long as it is below a 2. That has to be done on the antenna. ..hope this helps...

Home stereo with outside antenna, when I insert the coax cable into the stereo the radio plays fine until the type f connector touches the radio and that is when the static starts, please help

Hello, Try terminating the other end of the coax cable with a 50 ohm resister. Also .this could happen due to overloading the input with strong signals. If you know some electronics, you could connect two back to back connected diodes(in 4148) at the radio input end to limit the signal level.

Have you tried emailing tech support?

Failing that, and lack of pinout, serial communications can be done with only 4 connections, Transmit and Receive (TX, RX) ground (GND) if you do it with no handshaking. You'll need Data Terminal Ready (DTR) and Data Set Ready (DSR) and or CTS/RTS (Clear/Ready to end). You may have to trial and error it.

Pin 1 - Carrier Detect (CD) - only needed for a modem
Pin 2 - Receive Data (RX) - Cross over with TX
Pin 3 - Transmit Data (TX) - Cross over with RX
Pin 4 - Data Terminal Ready - Cross over with DSR
Pin 5 - Signal Ground (GND) - Goes to other side ground.
Pin 6 - Data Set Ready (DSR) - Cross over with DTR
Pin 7 - Request To Send (RTS) - Cross over with CTS
Pin 8 - Clear To Send (CTS) - Cross over with RTS
Pin 9 - Ring Indicator - Only needed for modem

Cobra 29 ltd Classic no sound, no rx, all lights work rx,tx, lite up. The SWR meter moves when mic is keyed up.

Check speaker and plug external one in if you have it.

swap mic could be a broke wire or bad switch in handset.

check antenna and coax connections.

i know checks sound basic but they could save you a lot of headaches later

Usually route modems provide means to linking resources between computer devices . An absence of the computers that provides resources is observable that the router modems continues to blink least with resources sharing taking place. Unless that devices were disconnected mometarily causing signal miscommuciations requires ascertaining main system units to restablish networking. Ascertain that each connection devices, cables, also wireless features has least been alterlated.

You are losing a VERY small amount of signal using the transformer. It won't even be noticeable I'm sure if you switch to the coax in but the fewer connections you go through the less the chance of a bad connection. Use regular " Ant. In " coax connection or " RF in" whichever the wording is on the back of your set. Good Luck!

I can't configure my CPS1600

the CPS600 is controlled and configured with the java based vConsole software. vConsole is provided by Avocent. I personally haven't worked with Avocent hardware much myself, but from what I can tell CPS1600 is designed for a UNIX based network. It should work on a windows networks as well, but you may need to do the CCM firmware conversion or update the CPS firmware to enable the device to communicate with a windows machine. I would recommend to forget about using hyperterminal and try the vconsole software, and if your still having trouble, then go for the firmware update and the ccm conversion as a last resort. Here is the link to the Avocent site, you should be able to find all the necessary software & firmware there. If you do end up needing a Unix system to configure the device, you should be able to get away with using the knoppix livecd linux distribution. Its a bootable cd with a fairly user-friendly version of linux.

How to split WIFI signal between one radio and two antenna?

Hi Philip,

To answer your question, from a single TX/RX device (your WiFi unit) to a dual antenna, what you would need as a splitter is more commonly called a "phasing harness".

A phasing harness is a balanced transmission line which is used when you want to stack or use two antennas from a single radio output. In lower frequencies it is made from a pair of 75 ohms high grade coaxial cable of equal odd quarter wavelengths of the operating frequency. The joint at the middle is connected with a “tee” connector with another cable (standard 50 ohms cable) that runs down to the radio. The free ends of the 2 75 ohms coax are then connected to the two antennas. This  site shows phasing harness for multiple antennas.

For microwave region, since losses tends to be magnified, commercial grade are often used rather than home brewed. Examples are shown in this page.

Alternately and perhaps simpler is to just remove the reflector of the 8Dbi patch antenna of the EOC 3220. Normally in designs such as the 3220, the active patch antenna is soldered on one side of the PCB.  At the back is another which looks just like it but slightly bigger. This is the reflector.  The reflector has two (2) purposes:
1.    block any signal coming in from and going to the back of the active patch antenna; and
2.    reflect any back signal of the active patch antenna and re-direct it forward to effectively increase the front signal.

If you decide to remove the reflector, there will be 3 effects on the performance of your TX/RX device:
1.    the front (major) lobe (roughly the front radiation pattern; maximum distance and area covered of the front signal traveled) will be greatly reduced;
2.    that reduction would be translated to a rear coverage; and
3.    it is highly possible that you will have small side lobes as well.

This   document  would give you an idea on the lobes and radiation patterns.

Good luck.
