We are having the same problem. Have a Kodak Easy Share 5300. The black print head appears to not be working. We've tried several new ink cartridges, that is not the issue. We've cleaned print heads, calibrated, etc. Spent 20 minutes waiting for tech support on the phone and finally gave up. Very Disappointed with this printer. We've only had it a few months and it's barely been used.

we have had the same problem and kodak has not been much help. We have been told to upgreade the firmware (when we try, we receive a message that this will be a downgrade). And to clean the printhead, (everytime you do this, it uses black ink and eventually has depleted our cartridge with no results). And to reset the printhead several times in a row (and we have done this about 30 times )

I have a Kodak 5300 and I am now experiencing the same issue. I replaced the black ink cartridge twice thinking I had a bad ink cartridge (have had that happen in the past with other printers). I reset the print head several times and cleaned the print head several times (it is using up the ink quickly). I have upgraded both the AiO software and the firmware. I just emailed Kodak to hopefully get a solution.

My 5100 quit printing black today. After changing the cartridge and doing a printhead cleaning 3 times I called Kodak tech support and spent a lovely 45 minutes on the phone with a gentleman located in El Salvador. After all the troubleshooting and firmware updates he told me that my printhead must be defective, so they are sending me a new one. We'll see if it actually fixes my problem when it arrives next week. What really gets me is I've used this printer less than a dozen times since I bought it and it's already broken.

Kodak Easyshare 5100 printer quit printing black. Replace the black cartridge and clean and calibrated the system. Still not printing black. Has worked fine since we bought it several month ago. Worked up until night before last.

I had the same problem. I called Kodak and got right through and they are sending me a new printhead.

    light black print

I'm having the same problem. My printer is only a couple of months old. This was my first replacement of Black.

  • pyewackett6 May 01, 2008

My ink was low. I replaced both cartridges. Now some of the color prints faintly, while the black and the yellow and magenta are printing not at all. I tried cleaning the print heads and it said print head cleaning failed. Tried calibration and of course most of the colors did not show up.
This printer is practically brand new I got it a few months ago. I am very frustrated.

same problem few months old anyone have resolution ?

  • zchief May 17, 2008

Same problem. Contacted Kodak. After double cleaning print head and test print I was told that they would send me a new print head and ink. Once the new head arrives I may try to clean the old print head manually just to see if it will work. I wonder how often this problem will happen since my printer is only 6 months old. I can't imagine Kodak replacing my print head every 6 months.

  • smochel May 19, 2008

Bought the printer in Dec 2007 worked great was very happy with it....then I had to replace ink and printed a picture something that was gray became purple and then could only get the printer to print one line. IT is a shame it was such a great printer.

  • Anonymous May 23, 2008

Yup - same thing happing to me. I don't suppose Kodak has any recalls on this machine?

  • Anonymous May 25, 2008

    no black is printing

  • beagledogs May 31, 2008

black cartridge was half empty and would not print anymore,I bought a new kodak cartridge, installed it,printed one page and it stopped again

  • kim51 Jun 04, 2008

After only one small black cartridge it will not print black clearly. Very weak gray with many horizontal streaks. Changed cartridge twice, cleaned with alcohol...no change. This is only 6 weeks old. No online help or manual. Nasty product. RIP OFF!  Shame on kodak!

  • Anonymous Jun 04, 2008

will not print black ink or color after i changed cartridge

  • CherylD Jun 05, 2008

Same problem - already installed new cartridge - Kodak printers are garbage! Calibrated, ran diagnostic - but when it printed out of course nothing was the page b/c there's no black ink!

This printer is only 6 months old - and has been horrible since day 1! Goes through ink like water in the desert - who cares if the cartridge is cheap if you have to change it 5x's more often than the other printers.

I got talked into the Kodak printer by a guy at Best Buy - no more kodak garbage and no more Best Buy for me. Hate it! Hate it! Hate it!

  • gsthrash Jun 07, 2008

I replace the color and black , the black ink did not print, i replace the black

with another black ink ,still the black ink did not print. Ihave the 5300 printer.

  • jvhughes444 Jul 17, 2008

I have a 5100 printer and like the other post, It will not print black ink. Before it stopped, it started printing the black light. I replaced the black ink cartridge and it does the same thing, at first it would only print a light page after cleaning the print head via the printer maintenance page, now nothing. I have gone thru the 2nd ink cartridge just trying to get it to print. I went thru all the t/s as per the email from Kodak, and via tel with Kodak. I now have to wait for the replacement black ink cartridge from Kodak to continue to t/s the problem. I have had it less than a year and barley used it to print less than 50 sheets, but I have now replaced 3 color and two black ink cartridges. If only my HP printer cartridges didn't cost and arm and a leg.

  • oldaudio Aug 03, 2008

My problems, similar to the ones described here, started after I did a firmware update to the latest version 71.650837. Anybody know how to revert to the original firmware version ?

  • Anonymous Aug 04, 2008

I have a Kodak EasyShare 5500 that quit printing completely after only having it only 7 months. I have noticed that the black ink was becoming lighter recently. I have replaced the ink (both black and color), did a printhead cleaning, regular and deep, and still nothing prints.

  • pnpmeyer Aug 09, 2008

We just experienced this same problem today....black ink not printing in our all-in-one 5100.. Troubleshooting with the Kodak tech (1-800-421-6699 US & Canada) through calibration and printhead cleaning under maintenance in the AiO Home Center proved fruitless and ended up with his issuing for a new printhead plus black and color cartridges to be sent and received by us within 3 business days.

Save yourself the trouble of emailing Kodak and head right for the phone. I hope this resolves the issue since we really support what Kodak is trying to do as far the the savings on cartridges. Keeping our fingers crossed~!

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2008

stopped printing black, replaced ink cartridge and still will not print black.

alined heads and cleaned heads. removed heads and put back in,still no black.

I work for kodak with these printer's.
I provide tech support for them.
For this problem all i would recommend is doing the deep clean on the printhead twice, Doing it more then twice is a waste of ink and if it doesnt fix it the second time it won't.
Also replacing the black ink cartridge.
Also calibrating the printer has worked for me a few times.
I would not recommend cleaning the printhead manually, thats more of a chance to break it then fix it.
I would just recommend calling into the kodak tech support and getting a replacement printhead to fix that clogged nozzel problem.

I had the same issue. Called Kodak, and they are sending a new printhead with new cartridges. You should definitely call them for a new printhead.

Inkjet printers nozzles can dry out and get clogged. If the units printhead cleaning does not work you can remove the printhead and manually clean it. There are many ways to do this just be careful and do some research online. My personal method for cleaning any inkjet printhead is to use distilled or de-ionized water (i hear windex works as well). You can soak the printhead nozzles or you can use a Lint-free cloth. Wet the cloth and wipe the printhead nozzles from front to back or back to front following the grain of the nozzle lines you see on the printhead. do not use a circular motion or wipe left to right across the nozzles. Also be sure to update your Firmware to the latest version from the kodak site. Just incase there was a problem in the code that wasnt completely capping the printhead when its idle. If it never recovers you can contact kodak and see about getting a new printhead.

Hope this helps and goodluck!

After a couple of e-mail, they sent a new printhead with new black and color cartridges. Solved the problem. Note, you must recycle the power on the printer to clear out the blinking error light.

Yep I have the same problem. Support sent me a new printhead, it worked fine for a couple of days. I went on vacation and didn't use my computer/printer for 6 days and now that I have returned home I get the same error message. Ink is low. It was a brand new cartridge less then 14 days ago and I only printed a few pages before I left so it shouldn't be all used up.

Printer will not print in black. I do not use the Kodak EasyShare 5100 very often, and the black ink will not print, despite fitting a new cartridge.

Try reinstalling the software. If you are using the disc it came with make sure you check web installation. Do not plug in printer until told to do so.

Will not print in black

This seems to be a common problem on the 5100

Contact Kodak Support who will ask you to re-insert cartridge, Print Clean, Calibrate and run print test (press Photo & Copy together) then tell you that you need a new Print Cradle! Which they will supply FREE of Charge by overnight carrier.

Calibrate Printer - Test Sheet Not Complete!

Run Computer Colour Test - Done

They will then send you a new Print Head.

Kodak 5100 black will not print

In the UK call 0870 2430270

Tell them, because they will ask you to:

You have removed and reseated Black Cartridge

Carried Out Printhead Cleaning

Carried Out Calibration Test, and Black is missing

Did a Test Print (Press Photo & Copy together) and NO BLACK

and they will send a New Print Cradle overnight.

I also complained about wasting ink on multiple tests and got a new pack of ink as well.

1-800-421-6699.. That is the number for Kodak. They will replace your printhead for you. I've been dealing with this same thing. Along with replacing the printhead they are sending black and color ink. All Free! I'm really excited. The people are very friendly and helpful. They know what they're doing. BTW, the replacements should be here in 3-5 days.
