Found this while looking for Battery Release Latch. You may find it interesting,

http://www.fixya.com/support/t296515-hp_pavilion_dv2120us_notebook_pc_battery

Latch is part of the Base Enclosure. (Bottom Cover)

Point?
From where I sit, (Computer chair at my house.....), it looks as though you may have to disassemble, to access where the Battery Release Latch goes, to reinstall.

Battery release latch won't open

If you push the battery in and try to release? Try a little silicon spray, mind not to over spray. If you hold open the release switch and manually pry out the battery with your finger nails?

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) Position laptop bottom side up, Battery Compartment facing you.

3) Remove the Locking Screw if installed.
(Area where Battery Compartment meets Bottom Door, and in the Middle; is screw location)

4) Slide the Bottom Door release latches to release the door.
(One latch on each side of Bottom Door; where Bottom Door meets Battery Compartment. The Latches slide to the INSIDE of the laptop)

5) Slide the door towards the Front of the computer, and lift off.
(Front of computer is AWAY from you. On the opposite side of the Battery Compartment)

[ P.S., you remove the Bottom Door; you wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source; or you risk using the laptop for a Frisbee from now on, or a doorstop.
Average cost is around $3 to $6 ]

Need to remove battery, dont know how compaq presario v 3000

Hello sexychispa. To remove the battery of your Compaq Presario v3000, start by turning the laptop over so that the bottom side is viewable. Look for a rounded slot in the bottom that has a sliding tab within. This is the battery release latch. Using your finger, slide the latch and hold to release the battery. With your free hand, assist the battery out of its compartment and allow the release latch to slide back into place.
For more information on the process, be sure to view this link to HP's guide to removing batteries from Compaq laptops.
Hope this helped!

Battery release latch locked in open -hp pavilion dv4 1313dx

The same thing happened to my HP laptop. The sliding lock mechanism relies on three little hooks to hold the battery in place. What had happened to mine was that one of the hooks (the one nearest to the switch) had gotten stuck (this is quite difficult to explain, but just examine the three little hooks closely and you'll notice it the difference.) I freed it simply by pushing it with my thumb to unsnag it. The battery is now securely back in place, where it will stay!

HP Pavilion dv2120us Notebook PC battery release latch

My battery latch got stuck in the open position after replacing the battery on HP's DV 6300 series. The battery was thus stuck. I used the 'screwdriver' technique but with a rounded end kitchen knife not an actual screwdriver to remove the battery. It is important to push the knife down a little into the groove at the outer long edge of the battery and pry that outer edge up. AFTER DOING THIS THEN GOING TO REPLACE THE BATTERY I REALIZED THE LATCH PROBLEM OCCURRED BECAUSE I HAD PUSHED THE BATTERY LATCH TO THE OPEN POSITION TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THIS IS WHAT JAMS IT. TO REPLACE THE BATTERY 'DON'T TOUCH THE LATCH AT ALL'. LEAVE THE LATCH IN THE CLOSED POSITION AND REPLACING THE BATTERY WILL SET THE LATCH IN THE CORRECT CLOSED POSITION, READY TO BE SLID TO OPEN POSITION ONLY TO DO THE ACTUAL BATTERY REMOVAL.
