Video problem in FLM-1911

The TV was fine and suddenly the video went off. The audio is fine. When I turn the TV off and turn it back on again the Polaroid logo comes on and the screen shows the video for maybe a second or two and then goes off. I have checked all the connections.

The audio will come on so I can tell the source is the dvd but the video still does not work. The dvd is connected directly with the yellow cable. Also, I notice that when the video comes on for the few seconds after the TV is turned on, the image is reddish.

I was asked whether a DVD would work if it was plugged in directly. I responded that the audio works but again, the video will only come on for few seconds before the screen goes black same as with the cable.

It has the problem with cable and dvd and over the air.

  • Lighthearted Jan 21, 2008

I think it is just out of warranty since it is a little over a year old. I can follow schematics and have replaced components on PCs but I have never soldered and would not have the equipment to test the board. Do you know about how much money the board would cost?

Thank you. I guess my next task is to find a repair shop. I appreciate your advice.

Does the telly only have this problem with dvd or is this problem with the normal telly signal as well if its just dvd then it could be dvd fault or even damaged cable internally tell me if the problem is with the tv on all formats or just with extras like dvd cable or sky let me know ok

Hi by what your explaining that the picture comes on for few seconds then the problem is going to be one of two its going to either a bad solder point on the video part of the board or it could even be the internal video card failing but it is deffinatley a overheating part problem doubtfull its solder problem and more likely the video card failing on the board this can be replaced but depending on the age and if you still have warranty if you do still have warranty take it back and they will replace with new telly.
I have not seen this fault before on this make of telly but similar problems on these type of telly are all usually to do with the video card part of the board.
If it was anything else then you would lose the sound aswell as you still have sound this shows that everything else is working as it should just problem with video.
If its out of warranty you can get repaired and it will be cheaper than replacing the whole telly.
But depending on the age you have to think is it worth repairing knowing that something else might go wrong.
If its relitively new then i would get repaired or ask for refund or exchange.
If you can do repair yourself and have relevent equipment to test the board and components and can follow schematics and be able to replace and solder in new parts.
This would be cheapest option but if you dont know what you are doing then you could damage the telly further let me know what you want to do ok

it wont be the whole board that needs replacing just a part related to the video card the problem you have is if you dont have equipment to test the parts then you could end up spending a fortune and still have the prblem the best thing to do is goto repair shop and let them check its not a very expensive part and can be done relitively quick but i wouldnt do it yourself if you havnt soldered as getting the soldering wrong could cause the whole board to short and then it wouldnt be worth repairng would cost to much.
Replacing video cards on the board is a common problem so repair shop should give you a quote before doing the work.
It would be cheaper than replacing the whole set.
It will be even cheaper if the problem is just a bad solder point then that should cost next to nothing. but you wouldnt know yourself if its solder or video board gone without relevant testing equipment so the best thing to do is get a quote from repair shop.
Dont call someone out as they will charge for this and they will also charge for transporting they telly to shop and back so take it in yourself and see what they say.
Dont do it yourself if you dont have multimeter or osc scope because you might never find the fault let me know if you need further assistance

I'm not a pro with LCD tv's, but i'll try.

Does the tv turn of with every source you try to put in it ?
If it turns of with dvd player, receiver etc. the problem is in your tv.

A common problem with LCD's is also that they're not mounted well,[no offense], just make sure the tv is prefectly straight.

How long do you have this tv ?

If you had it for a while and it was working perfectly fine and nothing has been changed ever since; the problem is probabaly internal.

That's all I got for now. Hope it helped a bit.

I must've hit a couple buttons on direct tv remote

That's why they print manuals. What sound went out? TV or Denon speakers? We're not clairvoyant enough to back into the button sequence you MAY have initiated. I'd start with basic test tones.

I have connected my dell dimension e521 to my polaroid flm-1911 flatscreen via vga. i'm not getting any sound though.

VGA connections will not support sound, you need a separate audio cable from the pc to tv. If HDMI connection available on the computer and tv, a HDMI cable will carry both sound and video.

I can't get tv to send sound to sound system

Having browsed the user manual I wonder if you plugged in the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System while the Polaroid FLM-2632 tv was powered down via the optical cable .
Then powered up the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System first and then powered up the Polaroid FLM-2632 tv
Maybe the Polaroid FLM-2632 TV has to detect that the Sony BDV T57 Home Theatre System is connected and powered up when the Polaroid FLM-2632 powers up. To activate its digital audio out ????
The note part about only being available only under HDTV (cable/air) mode. Might be the cause of your hassle also ?

My lcd tv has a purple screen and no sound

same problem all set to replace TV but tried another source DVD instead of dish and it was fine. Possible the cable (cheap HDMI) but reboot the dish (hard) pull the plug and fixed it up, probably the HDMI connection at the source or the TV (or the cable)

Pink screen

When the "pink screen" happens on my Polaroid FLM-1911 TV, I unplug the power cord from the back of the unit, wait 30 seconds, and replug it. This fixes the problem.
