Question about Sirius STILETTO 100 MP3 Player

Stiletto 100 recorded content skips

I record Howard Stern everyday, and for the past week, the recorded shows skip. The time is correct and when the show plays, it will be in the middle of something and jump to commercial and vice versa but the time doesn't skip around. I'm not losing any signal and it records content for the full 6 hours on the base in my home. Help!

    I have a new Stiletto 100 and have the same problem. The recording randomly skip around. My next step is going to be to break the recording down to small increments. It is a pain but hopefully will work around the problem

    I got the stiletto last Christmas. I have been recording Howard all year with no problem until a couple of weeks a go and my stiletto has been doing the same thing you described.....

    I have the same problem with my Stiletto 10. My unit worked perfectly in 2007 and then starting in 2008 it began acting strangely. I'm listening to my daily recording of Howard and all of a sudden we skip to another part of the program and eventually skip back. The timer moves along as if nothing is wrong. I've also noticed the date being out of sync for a few days and then correcting itself.

    I have 2 sirius stiletto 100's and only have this problem with one of them. I record howard every day and while listening to the show, it will suddenly skip to a segment usually about half an hour ahead, then jump back to where it cut off. I assume this is a bug with the stiletto that hopefully has been corrected with the stiletto 2. The only solution i can think of to try is to have the activation signal resent. Maybe I will try that one of these days.

    same problem - i thought the memory was corrupted or something, but now that I hear others having the exact same problem for about the exact same time, I guess it's a Sirius issue.

    i too have had the same problem while playback of mp3 files recorded onto and from the satellite but maybe have it fixed, just update the firmware and it will work, i just did and its not skipping like it used to. might be the answer.

    I have been experiencing the same problem when I listen back to the recorded version of the Stern show. Has anyone contacted sirius about this? If so what was their response?

    I have the exact same problem as well. I called Sirius and they told me to update my software. My husband said he did that already and it hasn't fixed the problem.

    I have the exact same problem. I've contacted Sirius multiple times. They keep telling me to update the Stiletto's software, but I have a 64 bit computer and the software won't work on a 64 bit computer. When I told them this, they told me that they have no 64 bit version available and I should use a friend's computer if I want to update the Stiletto. Even after finally managing to update the Stiletto, it didn't help at all. Bottom line- after multiple web searches, phone calls to Sirius, and talking to numerous tech people- it seems like Sirius has basically abandoned the Stiletto 100 and is not offering anything but the most basic tech support, and is just waiting for people to upgrade to the Stiletto 2 and forget about the Stiletto 100- which is basically obsolete technology as far as Sirius is concerned. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Sirius to solve this problem.

    I personally have had the same issue, with recorded music, and with files I have transferred onto it myself.


    Check your software version on both the player and MSS, the new MSS Version is 1.6.0.5972, and the new radio OS is 1.1.0.43757, bootloader 16645

    The new software has seemed to fix my problem. and as far as I have experienced, it has spead up some of the reaction tie with the wheel (at least some of the lag went away).

    All of my recorded content (including live broadcast and personal music files) pauses uncontrollably while in the car docking station and when in the Soloist Universal Sound System. This pause never occurs during playback when docked in the Boombox. I can eliminate the pauses if I start the track over several times, but then that only lasts a song or two until the pauses start again. I have all current software updates available.

I've got a solution to this. I've migrated to 64-bit Windows 7, like any other intelligent person. My Stiletto 100 seems to think I'm still stuck in 2006. Good news is, although I bought in 2006, I still have a 4-year replacement warranty from Best Buy and I've got 8 months to go on it. I don't care who eats this one, Best Buy or Sirius, but someone's going to get a hard lesson in not supporting device drivers for older hardware. Meanwhile I will treat myself to a new toy that should last a lot longer than 4 years, since we won't be using 128-bit anytime in the next 2 decades :)... Isn't it unfortunate how oblivious suits and marketing people are about the reality of technologies?

I purchased a refurbished Stiletto 100 about 5 weeks ago, and I have had the skipping problem ever since. I did all the software/firmware updates and nothing helped. It started doing it so much the other day that I called them and they agreed to replace it free of cost. Keep in mind I purchased a REFURB.. and they are replacing it with a new one. No questions asked. Not sure why others are having problem with their customer service, they were fantastic when I called.

I had the same problem and the software update fixed it when it is plugged in. Now when on battery power it hangs every 10 mins. Way better.

Purchased a stiletto 2 and after a week I am trying to reload the software after it tanked. Again way better....

Double check your signal strength during the time of day your recording sounds like classic signal drop. Could also be software issue or memory issue. As a last resort; SIRIUS Device Recovery (SDR) is a software application that helps you recover your Stiletto (SL2, SL100 or SL10) in the event of a complete system failure.
The SIRIUS Device Recovery program retrieves the latest version of software for your Stiletto from the Sirius website. NOTE: Performing device recovery WILL ERASE the entire contents on your Stiletto: all music, Sirius recordings, channel presets and any user preferences. Dish Network DVR 625 Problem with playback of recorded shows


It sounds as though the hard drive is about to go south on you soon and the receiver is going to need to be replaced however, in the interim you can change the options of the recordings and make it a default so that the recording continues past the end of the show. It is possible that extending this time will allow you to view the portion you want before it skips to the end. In order to do this press the guide button and select a program in the future. On the create timer screen select the option icon. You will now be at the timer options screen you can extend the time the recording will last after the end of the show and when it will begin recording prior to the show. I would also set this as your systems default so that it performs the same way regardless of what you are recording. According to the latest known receiver issues this is not identified as it is a common indication that the hard drive has an error internally. If this works I suggest that you have a replacement sent to you so that you do not lose the use of your DVR un-expectantly.Remember to watch all recorded events prior to replacement as you will lose that info when the receiver is swapped. probably a dying hard drive, but could just be corruption, delete all effected recordings, monitor, if issue continues delete all recordings unplug receiver for 10 minutes, monitor new recordings if continues receiver may need to be replaced

My stiletto records for about 18 minutes then stops


Daylight savings time change a few months ago messed up the timer recording schedule - you must now fix it. Daylight savings time changes will always mess up this recorder. You must reset your recording schedule.

Stiletto 2 deletes recordings


I'm a relatively new subscriber, only having my stiletto2 for 3 months. It just started "not recording" and "deleting my recordings". In researching, I came to this thread. Since no one really seems to have posted a real solution here, I'll share what I've found elsewhere.

1.) Check to make sure your SL2 has the latest software (ZAP). To find out what version you have, navigate to Settings >> Device >> Device Info. If your software is not up-to-date simply connect your radio to Internet Radio for about an hour and it will be downloaded. You will get a notice on your screen when the update is complete.
2.) Perform a Full Shutdown of your SL2 at least once a month by holding the power button down for 10 seconds. If you do a lot of recordings it's advised to perform a shutdown weekly or more for best results. This will flush the system, clean up and remove old and expired recordings/replays and reduce general screen lag. For some this simple step has eliminated missing recordings all together.
3.) Do not use your SL2 as an archive device and try to avoid using your internal memory over 50% for the time being. If you do a lot of recordings it's also advised to disable Radio Replays.

If 1-2-3 don't work, try 4
4) Set and Erase
4a. go into your Settings Menu>>Device>>Reset & Erase.
4b. As soon as you complete the process (Reset & Erase) and have rebooted, you will need to connect to Wi-Fi again to again download the baseband update. Let it run for at least 30 minutes to ensure that it is able to get the entire update. Then tune to Satellite Radio it SHOULD complete the baseband update.
4c. You should see the Updating SIRIUS message for about 7 minutes. If it's only up for a minute or two, then it may bet hat the update failed again. You can check the Service Info screen to be sure.
4d. If you then shutdown your SL2 (by holding down the power switch for 5 seconds) then turn it back on, it should complete the baseband update process.

Sirius Stilleto 100 skipping issue


Usually this is a signal issue and it happens when recording indoors mostly, right? The signal dropps but only for a second or two so when you look at it its fine. you've probably notived it cutting in and out when "live" from time to time. Use your signal meter built in to the device and find the strongest signal location. If that doesnt work or its not the problem, update the software. If that doesnt work try running the recovery software but only as a last resort because you'll lose your recordings.

Have either of your tried unhooking the HDMI connector if you are using it and try component?

What software are you running on the unit. The HR20-700 and HR20-100 just got a software update that was going to fix this problem w/ the unplayable recordings.

If it is erasing your content that is a good sign of a defective hard drive. These units when they boot up (after a software update) check the hard drive. If they run into a problem (bad sector) they will foolishly erase the hard drive, thus erasing everything you have recorded. If this is your 4th unit, you may want to look at your environment as well (well ventilated, good connections, etc) I'm not saying it couldn't be the unit. It took directv 14 units to get 3 working, and since I've had 2 HR20-700 refurbs that were unstable and were quickly replaced.

It might be in your best interest to invest in an external drive solution for the HR20. I, however, would be calling customer retention and having a calm, but stern chat with them about this.
