Bought a new Cobra 29 as well as new coaxial wire and antennas. Set It all up and I can hear everybody fine but when I talk nobody can understand what I'm trying to say.. What did I miss? The doors on my truck are fiberglass skinned. Could it possibly be that the antennas are not grounded? The mike is new as well...

Also, if the radio has been peaked and tuned the mic gain might be up to high, but it probably is that your swr's are too high.
check them on 1 and 40. use an inline meter, not the radio meter. if your swr's are lower on 1 thean 40, lower the whip. if 40 is lower than 1, raise the whip.

If its a magnet mount antenna and its stuck to metal, then its grounded.

What you probably have to do is tune the antenna for best SWR.

It is in your manual that you got with your cobra 29, and in the insturctions for the antenna.

Read them both, and tune the antenna accordingly.

The lenght of the antenna has to be just right. It will explain in the radio manual how to check the SWR to tell if the antenna is the right lenght and the antenna instructions will tell you how to adjust the lenght.

Also her is an artical on how to tune your antenna for best SWR. ARTICAL

IMPORTANT!! Do not transmit with your radio until you tune the antenna. If you SWR is to high then you could damage your radio.

Basicall if the antenna isn't the right length then the swr will be high which means that your transmit energy is not leaving the antenna but being reflected back to the radio and can blow the transmit circuit.

Thats why no one can understnad you good because all of the RF energy is not being transmitted. Its being reflected back.

I have new cobra ltd new antannas and mounts can hear but cant talk

You say antennas,I assume co-phased,as long as they were installed correctly&adjusted for the lowest swr reading,we'll assume they are ok.Next step would be the radio adjustments ,there is a switch next to your meter that must be set to s/rf,another switch for cb/pa needs to be on cb and last the knob for mic gain needs to be set at about halfway to three quarters depending your voice level and mic type used..are you using the stock mic that came with the radio,if so you should be able to transmit..look at the meter when you key the mic and talk it should move with your voice. If your using an aftermarket mic such as a power mic, make sure the battery is fresh and the correct type, this may also not be wired correctly for your radio if bought second hand..next step would be taking vehicle w/radio to a reputable cb repair shop or technician to evaluate.Good luck and hope everything works out.

Can only get out about two truck lenghts and then nobody can hear me. i just bought a brand new astatic mike, but that wasn't the problem, bought a new wilson 2000 antenna and that's not the problem...

Did they set the swr on the new antenna for you? check the installation of antenna system. make sure the insulator is ontop of mirror mount. Check SWR's.. use a dummy load on the coax and check it to make sure its ok..... if you had bad swr before you changed antennas the rf finals may be bad in the radio. simple $10-20 repair.@ a Decent shop. don't pay more than that. have them check the swr's they should do it for FREEEE!!!.. unless theres a problem like cables, mounts bad ie...also have the radio checked that should be FREE too to have it checked on a bench.. i don't charge unless theres a problem, and the customer wants it fixed. here in temple, tx hwy 95&fm93....

call or text if you need more help..

I have weak talk back signal

Did you tune the antenna??

The antenna needs to be tuned for best SWR.

If the antenna is not the right length, then you will get signal reflecting back into the radio. this is bad and it can damage a radio.

The 29 has a built in SWR meter.

The lower the SWR the better.

Here is how to check the swr.

Turn to ch 20. Put the sf swr cap switch to CAL. Key the radio. With the radio keyed, turn the cal knob up until the meter is all the way to the right on the cal mark. with the radio still keyed, flip the switch to SWR. Where ever the needle falls is your swr reading. The top line is SWR. If it is above 3 this is really bad, and your antenna is no tuned and you are hurting your radio. You need to adjust the antenna length.

Turn to ch 1 and take an SWR reading the way I explained. Then do the same on ch 40. IF the SWR is lower on ch 1 then 40, your antenna is too short, make it longer. The antenna has a way of adjusting it. Usually the whip slides up or down in a colar.

If the swr is higher on ch 40 then 1, it is too long, and you need to make it shorter.

Keep making adjustments until the reading on 1 and 40 get lower, and are about the same.

Then check ch 20 again. It should be low, 1.5 or under. Then you are good to go.

you will find people hear you a lot better, way better then ever.

ICAN HEAR EVERYBODY BUT I CANT GET OUT I SWITCHED MIKS AND STILL CANT GET OUT people can hear me but when they talk to me all i hear is static

You said that you can hear everybody and then you said all you can hear is static. Which is it?

If you can hear everybody and you have switched to a known good mike, then you either have a bad antenna or you have a bad final amplifier caused by a bad antenna or by having transmitted at sometime without an antenna at all.

Cobra 29 LTD Classic not transmitting or receiving

As I understand from a tech friend of mine, most truck beds are not grounded well enough. Perhaps you could borrow/purchase a magnet mount antenna and locate it on the roof, for testing. Then you would have it narrowed down to the location.
