Hi. That cpu has built in speaker?
if yes, please take a look inside your computer and check th speaker cable inside your computer is put into board or not. If pull out, put it into speaker socket. Connect PC Internal Speakers to Motherboard
thats common for the reverse gear to grind if you go right for it i always go to fist then reverse. it sounds like you might have a week slave cylinder and the pressure is to low to go into a high gear does this happen in 5 th also or only 3 rd?
I don't know this model laptop but of all the laptops I've serviced there are none I've come accros that does not have a built-in audio card. The only reason that the sound does not work is either the audio driver was not installed or the audio chip is faulty or the built-in speakers are faulty.
This is going to be a problem either with the sound card malfunctioning after the machine warms up, or feed back from the speakers due to a wiring issue. Either way, this is a hardware problem, and you shouldn't have this or any problem with the machine, especially with it only being 10 days old. Take it back for an exchange. Demand an exchange and don't let them give you the run around. When you get the new machine, you will see that you shouldn't have any problems with it for years to come. Also, don't let this bother you about Dell machines, they're one of the best machines on the market. Just like everything else, there are a few lemons.
make sure you have a microphone first in your laptop.. some laptops don't have a built in mic. can you hear music? if so, then the sound card is OK. now double click the speaker icon at the bottom right hand corner, go to options, recordings and set it to RECORDINGs.. now make sure it's not muted and hopefully that'll take care of it.
msn live messenger has a good audio/video testing utility built in. give it a shot.
bought the same amp second hand and had same problem as there are two seperate amp chips inside one for front speakers and one for the centre and rears it could be the actual amp chip that drives the front speakers has died as there is no built in speaker protection so over driving these speakers will result in the amp chip blowing . it may be something simple but it was not on mine had to buy new amp chip and solder in that sorted the problem for me !
