Better get a boot removal tool, the boots get glued to the spark plugs, the removal is like rubber ended pliers that allow you to reach the bottom of the boot to twist it free, and its cheap insurance

Need to kb\now how to change spark plugs on my 2001 sonata

Follow these steps on how to replace thespark plugs. 1. First, you turn off the Sonataengine and allow it to cool. This normally takes about 30 minutes. 2. Raise the hood and locate thespark plug cables along the side of the engine. Spark plug cables are normally1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and plug directly into the engine. 3. Grasp the cable by its boot. This is the thicker piece that covers the spark plug or spark plug well. Turnthe cable back and forth until the lock releases. Pull back on the cable toremove it. Complete the replacement process for each plug before moving on tothe next. Slide the socket, extension and wrench over the spark plug. Turn thewrench to the left to unscrew and remove the plug from the engine. Spark plugsockets have a cushion inside that grab the end of the plug to hold it inplace. 4. Clean the well and boot withthe wire brush. Do not rub hard on the well or boot or it will cause damage.Spray silicon in the boot and on the spark plug threads, so you can easilyremove the spark plug the next time. 5. Insert the socket into the welland gently thread it into the engine. Test the tension with the tester. Thetension a spark plug needs varies by plug manufacturer. Check the package tofind the correct tension. If you need more tension, tighten the spark plug. Forless, loosen or unscrew the plug. 6. Place the cable back onto thespark plug. Repeat Steps 2 through 7 for the other plugs. Work your way downone side of the engine and then down the other as you replace or clean thespark plugs. This are the things you need for the job, 16mm spark plug socket,Socket wrench with extension, Wire brush, Silicon spray, New spark plug,Tension tester

Replacing spark plugs in a 2002 chevy tahoe

EACH ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS IS LOCATED UNDER INDIVIDUAL COILS. YOU MUST FIRST REMOVE THE BOLT ON TOP OF THE COIL AND GENTLY TWIST AND PULL UP ON THE COIL WITHOUT RIPPING THE BOOT. UNPLUGGING THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR IS NECESSARY ON MOST MODELS. SOME OF THE NEWER MOTORS HAVE A COVER ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE THAT HIDES THE COILS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. BEST OF LUCK

How do I change the spark plugs on a BMW 523i engine and what is the correct spark gap?

The spark plug change is very straight forward. Basically, you remove the plastic valve cover trim panel, unplug the harness plugs from each of the ignition coils, remove the two nuts securing each coil, pull the coil up. The rubber spark plug connector boot should come up with the coil. You can now remove the spark plugs.

The spark plugs are not gappable. Install them as they come out of the box.

Replace the rubber connector boots at the same time, these wear out and can cause miss-fire problems.

Note that if you find oil in the spark plug wells, the valve cover gaskets must be replaced. Not only does this make a mess, but it deteriorates the boots and also causes miss-fires.

See the DIY article in the Spring 2005 issue of the Bavarian Autosport - Fast Times newsletter (see link below):

Car will start up in mornings

Check the COP(coil on plugs) boots. The 2000 and 2001 LS are known for oil soaked cop boots. The valve cover gaskets used on these years become brittle and crack which lets motor oil seep into the spark plug wells. The wells fill up with oil which soaks the boots that connect the spark plug with the coil causing the spark to jump before it gets to the plug.If not fixed it can cause the coil to short out.
I had the same starting problem on my 2001 LS. Then I noticed smoke comming from behind the right side valve cover. Then a few weeks later the engine started to miss. It's a good idea to check this and fix it early.

Spark plugs

You probably have a 2.4 ltr? If so , then you have to remove the head cover that covers the head and spark plugs. locate the aluminum cover ontop of the engine that is held down with 4 bolts that have a molded rubber insulator/washer under them. The cover is aprox. 18" long. They should be 13mm bolts. Unplug the connector at the drivers side end of the cover assy.-remove the connector release lock if needed. Lift and remove the cover to expose the plugs and the short/stubby plug wires. Yes those boots are plug wires. Now remove the boots if they didn't stay on the cover when you removed it. Just snap the boots back onto the cover before reinstalling the cover. It's not a bad job but do it when the engine is cold so the plugs come out with out taking the threads with them.
good luck - scott
