    The manual you indicated was not for the HP Pavilion 5160us. My laptop is not a Compaq, thanks for trying. I know of the underside compartment, but it only contains a single socket. I don't know where the other socket is located. I had already replaced the 512 factory installed RAM with a 1GB, but now I want to max the RAM with 2GB. Thanks again.

    I knew of the underside compartment. I also knew of the possibility of a socket being underneath the keyboard. Unfortunatley, the manual in the HP website does not resemble zv5160us but of a compaq. I finally found the manual that resembles my laptop and was able to access the socket underneath the keyboard. I was able to upgrade the memory to the max of 2GB. Thanks for trying.

The following link provides the manual for dissembly of the zv5160us.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00212209.pdf
On the bottom back of the computer I removed the three screws that holds the strip cover on just like it says on page 5-30. I flipped the computer over and with the help of a small flat blade screwdriver I popped the Strip Cover off. NOTE: Tilt the screen to be horizontally flat (wide open, screen facing upward) with the main body of the computer to allow the three cowl-like hindge cover to free up as you are popping off the Strip Cover. Once the Strip Cover is off you can see the four screws that hold on the keyboard. Remove the four screws ten the keyboard lifts up very easily and then you can see the main memory socket.

On this laptop there should be a small door on the bottom of the laptop that has one very small screw in it. It is usually in the center of the laptop. If it is not there then you will need to check out the manual listed above because they will be under the keyboard.

    That is the manual listed by HP (HP bought Compaq a few years ago).
    Try this page, where they may provide more info on model numbers.

You can upgrade, have a look at the specs;

You can upgrade your HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.
Choose the following Memory Upgrade for HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop.

Hope that helps.

INSTALL RAM UPGRADE, HP PAVILION, 8756C

You will need to purchase SDRAM (which is the RAM / Interface Type)

and installation is quite simple

Use the following steps to insert a memory module into an empty socket:

The memory configuration of channel A (the first two sockets) and channel B (the second two sockets) must be identical.

Align the memory module so the small notches on the lower edge line up with the raised marks in the socket.
  1. c00571683.gif
  2. Push straight down on top ends of the memory module until the memory module is fully seated in the socket. The retaining clips on the ends of the socket lock into place when properly seated.
